John Sullivan

Obituary of John Paul Sullivan

Paul Sullivan passed away peacefully on February 1, 2022 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Paul was predeceased by his wife of 60 years Lois (Atrens) and his brother Bill Sullivan.  He is survived by his three children Kelly, Kevin (Sandra) and Caree; his seven grandchildren Lauren, Thomas, Jack, Ryan, Zoe, Arden and Ty and one great grandchild Hudson.

Paul was born in 1933 and was raised in Niagara Falls Ontario where he was a gifted multi-sport athlete in his youth. His basketball team at NFCVI won three consecutive Ontario championships from 1951 to 1953 without dropping a single game, an achievement that had Paul and his teammates inducted into the Niagara Falls Sports Hall of Fame.

Paul attended the University of Western Ontario, playing football and basketball and graduated with an honours business degree 1955.  He made and maintained many great friendships at Western through Kappa Alpha and had an annual reunion with his friends for over 60 years post graduation. He also met Lois in the Thames Hall gym and they built a wonderful life together travelling across Canada as a successful General Motors executive with three children in tow.

Paul was a wonderful father, friend and man.  He was quick to laugh, sage, non-judgmental and a great sounding board for whatever problems his family, friends and business associates   encountered.  Even as his mind deteriorated with the ravaging effects of his disease, he never lost his sense of humour or good nature.  He will be missed by so many whose lives he touched.

A special thanks to Candy, Pinky, Angie and Sally who provided him with exceptional care during the last difficult years of his life.  The family will hold a private celebration of life and would welcome any donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada in Paul’s memory.

 Rest in peace Dad.
