ILIA J. ESCHHOLZ-FLEISCHACKER

January 25, 1928 – January 30, 2022

Born in Vienne Austria, a good student who, as a young teenager, survived several days under a bombed building during WWII. One of her early employment positions in 1948 was as a translator in the American embassy in Vienna.

She immigrated to Canada in July, 1951 and married Fred Heiki Eschholz in September of that year. Until his death in 1992 they worked hard, prospered and enjoyed life in Toronto and Florida. Shortly after settling in Toronto, she joined the Bank of Nova Scotia and continually grew in responsibilities and broke the glass ceiling long before that term was created! She retired after a long and successful career.

In December, 2000 she married John W. Fleischacker and they danced and travelled and made every effort to enjoy their golden years together until John’s death in 2015. Her mental health was deteriorating and dementia eventually took over completely until she died peacefully.

A graveside service and interment will take place on February 4th at 3:00 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society is appreciated.
