I am saddened to learn today of the passing of this remarkable man in every way. My deepest sympathy to the whole Rennie family. I first met him as my Grade 7 HR teacher( all of his students loved him)… Five of us were delighted to have visits with him in recent years. He stimulated smiles and great conversation and was genuinely interested in us and was always so animated when talking about his beautiful family. He will be missed so so much.

To Janice and family:
It was with sadness that I learned of the passing of my good friend from Whitney School. He and I were pals in the late 40's and early 50's. Some summers, Hugh after he had been at summer camp would come over to our cottage for a few days. Then in the early 50's, the family moved from Glenrose to Lascelles. After that I saw Hugh on fewer occasions, however in 1973,I bought Walter's home on Lascelles which I still have today. Encounters at Hugh's house on Glencairn or a passing in the dining room at the Granite Club was always one in which we reminded each other of fun times past.
I valued his friendship that I will forever remember.

Janice and Family. Like so many we were saddened to read of Hughie's death in the Globe. I spoke to Lesley who told me of his recent fast illness. We have many memories of you both through our times with Carl and Lesley. But we also remember our tour of the Muskoka lakes with Toromont one fall and just as you said in the paper, when we went by the cottage there was Hugh on the dock, drink in hand! And oddly we found that of all the people on the boat, there were 3 couples who knew you two!! And in true Hugh fashion nothing would do but we all get off have have a drink with you both. He was one of a kind. We send the entire family our sincere sympathy in your loss. You will miss him terribly but have such wonderful memories to sustain you. Sincerely Rick and Wendi Van Exan

Dear Janice and family, Hughie was an influencer before it was a popular profession. As my grade 7 teacher (we were his home room class in his first year teaching and was he ever cute!!!) he changed the way I looked at life by teaching me the importance of taking personal responsibility. My heart is heavy for your tremendous loss. May your best memories sustain you at this time.

Mr Rennie was my teacher in grade 7. I think we were his first class. I had the pleasure of being his guest with 4 other classmates at the Granite club. We had so much fun with him and his stories. I am so glad that I was able to meet him and to stay in touch after so many years. My sincere condolences to the family. He will be truly missed.

Dear Janice and family. Words cannot express my admiration I had for Hughy. I was very fortunate to link in with him as I began my journey with Camp Kirk in 1993. He was a stellar supporter and founder of Camp Oochigeas and the two camps joined together for several fundaisers over the years and I can't say enough about Hughy's passion and devotion to our mutual causes. Although we didn't see much of each other in the last few years, I truly admired is continued devotion to Camp Oochigeas in the service of children with cancer. My sincere condololences go to Janice and to his entire family. Big hugs to you all in these difficult times.
Henri and Jane Audet and the entire Camp Kirk family.

Dear Rennie Family; On behalf of the Jarvis-Tredgetts, I wanted to pass along our sincere condolences regarding Hugh’s passing. We benefited from decades of periodic (but truly enjoyable) interactions with Hugh. He was always warm, engaging and friendly. It was commonplace to walk away from a conversation with Hugh thinking to yourself, "my day just got brighter.” Beyond all of his well-earned accolades related to Camp Ooch, we will remember Hugh for his magnetic personality, positive energy and love of family.
Our collective thoughts and best wishes are with the extended family at this time.
Our Condolences,
Mark-
