Obituary of Christopher Nicholas Letros

December 26, 1935 - December 23, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Chris Letros.  He died peacefully after a brief illness, just days before his eighty-sixth birthday.  The youngest son of Vasiliki and Nicholas Letros from southern Greece, he lived a full life that centered around a loving family, an impactful professional career and service to his community.

Family and friends were the cornerstone of his life. He was an absolutely devoted and loving husband for 56 years to his soulmate, Helen.  An exceptional father and doting grandfather (“Papouli”) to son Michael (daughter-in-law Daniela and grand-daughters Zoe and Alexa, based in New York) and daughter Kelly (grand-daughter Emily, living in Toronto).  He will also be greatly missed by his nieces and nephews in Alberta and Ontario and extended family in Greece. His love was unconditional and a friendship with him lasted a lifetime.

Chris qualified as a Registered Industrial Accountant (later Chartered Management Accountant) and spent his entire career in the mining industry.  He built the accounting infrastructure and raised financing for mines and exploration projects in Quebec, Ontario, the Northwest Territories, Nevada, Kentucky, Mexico and South Africa. He was very proud of the contributions these projects made to their local communities. Chris was professionally known for his integrity, attention to detail, keen sense of humour and quick wit.

He was also an ongoing supporter of the Greek community in Canada and was twice a member of the Board of Directors at All Saints Greek Orthodox Church in Willowdale, a church where he was an original member.

A man of numbers, he was an avid lover of books.  He was an active tennis player in his earlier years and found great enjoyment in tending to his beautiful garden and entertaining.

The family would like to thank the staff at North York General for their excellent care. Chris battled Multiple Sclerosis for over two decades with extraordinary grace and dignity.  In lieu of flowers, we request that a donation be made to the MS Society of Canada.  The visitation will take place this Wednesday December 29th at 10 a.m. with a funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. at All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, 222 Burbank Avenue, North York.  Burial to take place at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.  A celebration of his life will be planned in the Spring.  Eternal be his memory.  Condolences may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
