Obituary of Emma Louise Catalfamo

EMMA LOUISE CATALFAMO

August 25, 1993

November 29, 2021

We are saddened to share that our Emma was taken from us too soon, at the age of 28, passing away peacefully in her sleep.  She had a beautiful, sensitive and artistic soul.  In Emma’s short time she accomplished so much and touched many hearts.  A world traveler, she made a home for herself in Montreal, London, England and Toronto.  She had a deep passion for the arts, completing a Master’s Degree in Filmmaking and becoming an award-winning filmmaker with extensive artistic interests, especially in pottery and photography.  Emma saw the world beautifully and we were lucky to see a piece of it captured through her lens.  One of her proudest achievements was creating, directing and recently completing her first feature film – a dream we are so glad she accomplished, ensuring Emma’s voice will live on through her art.  An avid lover of music, Emma felt a kindred spirit towards the classic rock greats of the 70s and 80s.

Emma cared deeply about the LGBTQ+ community and those whose voices often go unheard.  She advocated for creating spaces for people to feel safe and to know they are not alone.  This showed in every facet of her life – from her film work and photography to conversations around the dinner table.

Emma, you deserved so many more years.  We miss you every day and we carry you in our hearts forever.

Emma is predeceased by her mother, Margaret.  She is deeply missed by her father, Joe (Lauren); sister, Sierra (Nic); as well as her nonna, Maria; aunts and uncles, Connie, Nella, Jed, Francois, Barbara; her cousins, Hannah, Andrew, Emily, Wesley, William, Richard, and many more loving relatives across Canada, England, Scotland and Italy.

A private service, for family only, will be held at the Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles – Newbigging Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue on December 8th, followed by interment in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The 519 (the519.org) to help support a cause dear to Emma’s heart.  The service will be livestreamed; please see the link on the Humphrey website, www.humphreymiles.com, and where you may also leave condolences.

A Celebration of Emma’s Life will be held in the summer of 2022.

“You and I will meet again

When we’re least expecting it

Somewhere in some far-off place

I will recognize your face

I won’t say goodbye my friend

For you and I will meet again”
