Thank you Sheila, Trevor, Karen and Shane for sharing your Dad with the entire Team at Skican.
Throughout my 10 years at Skican, I learned not only the business side of the company but also how we all are still family. My time at Skican was an incredible journey that I proudly boast about when ever I can. I truly appreciated all that Robin taught me over the years. His teachings have stayed with me long after I left Skican.
Memories of Robin and Skican will one my life's greatest treasures. Thank you for sharing Robin with the world!

Tribute to Robin Nasmith-November 7th, 2021
I’ve heard these words several times this week in reference to Robin: kind, generous, pioneer, legend. So here are some reflections on my best friend’s dad and friend to the whole Bliss family that highlight these traits and more.
So, so many of my adventures are thanks to Robin. From the middle school chartered bus trip to the Laurentians’ Lodge where I learned at Owl’s Head never ever to ski out of bound again; to Skican vacations at Mount Ste. Anne, Silverstar, Mount Tod (Sunpeaks) Whistler and Snowmass; on reconnaissance travel pursuits by bike through Brittany and Normandy as a pre-teen and pack horse treks in Banff and the Chilcotin mountains; to Shane’s European hockey tournament I was invited to tag along to and experience skiing at world class destinations like Chamonix, Verbier, Val d’Isere, Courtmeyer and Trois Vallees.
My eurorail pass after high school was funded by my 6-month stint as part-time Skican receptionist and envelope stuffer. And I returned from my gap year travels to a job as a receptionist and white water rafting guide thanks to an exaggerated reference about what a good staff member I would make at friend Joe Kowalski’s Wilderness Tours.
While in university, the Skican connection meant I secured a position at Village Camps which hosted international high school groups on ski holidays in the Swiss Alps. And then again when I put my name in the hat to instruct German university students on a ski club outing. Between undergrad and teacher’s college, I got yet another year of employment, learning the ropes of being a Skican reservationist AND in the exciting role of exploring potential summer product on road trips throughout the Charlevoix, Saguenay and Maritimes to experience the Inns of Quebec and Atlantic Canada. When Robin learned I was going to a friend’s wedding in Prince George, BC, he sent me up the Alaska highway and back down the Cassiar Stewart to meet with lodge and tour operators and report back on potential partnerships. Nothing ever came of those trips he sent me on in terms of Skican business development, but something tells me he was more invested in helping to develop me as a young person than anything related to his business.
Likewise, Robin sent Liz Bliss on a memorable fam trip to experience the Bavarian hospitality of Kimberley BC with Sheila. And Jamie Bliss too, landed a memorable job with Penny Walsh at the Whistler Creek Lodge, undoubtedly because of the Nasmith family connection.
And then there was the Bent Pennies era: the years Robin devoted to coaching Karen, her friends, including me as Sheila’s defence partner, in a low-level recreational hockey league. Who knew why he took the time to drive up to the Canlan arena near York university or at the Rinks at Dufferin and Lawrence while we lost every single game in the first season. What we do know is that we had the time of our lives.
And now that I have a season of “Ted Lasso” under my belt, I’d like to add ‘curious’ to the words in reference to Robin. He seemed to share that trait with the Apple TV soccer coach hero who didn’t need to know a thing about the sport, but rather as an expert in the art of curiosity, Robin took time to learn about the people he met and what made them important. While investigating and investing in so many people who crossed his path, Robin was a champion of champions in the game of life.
I’m so lucky and grateful to have grown up with Robin in my life and will miss him very much.
Sally Bliss

My memories of Robin go back to the early days of The Ridgewood Club. As I recall, the first tip was to Freeport, Bahamas. In those days it was an all night flight on a turboprop. Thank God there was enough booze on board to see us comfortably through the night. The return flight was more subdued. In the following years there were many more fantastic long weekend trips.
With Skican, we enjoyed many wonderful ski trips to places like Aspen and Banff. The company and it's destinations simply grew from there. Thanks to Karen for keeping things going.
Robin was a quiet, warm individual with a strong entrepreneurial drive.
My condolences to Sheila and the family.
Thanks for the memories.
