Love the photos Ruth posted of Eva catching a ball at Stratford, where she came prepared with mitt and ball - in there would be a patch of grass. I love the telling of Eva catching a foul ball at a Jays' game - in her quilted bag! The man next to them, from Boston, proclaimed - they will never believe that a woman in Toronto caught a foul ball.

What a wonderful tribute on Saturday to a multi-faceted, very special lady. Everyone who spoke revealed a new side to Eva, and we all learned more about this woman we loved. Eva meticulously orchestrated this ending in every way and it was an amazing Coda, Final Act, Last Board, Epilogue, or Addio Finale (?), depending on your point of view, Capped off by a warm and loving tribute by Doug. Bravo. Bravissima.

Eva and Doug 2011 visit to Amsterdam. Brian and Elizabeth's daughter: Lauren, resided in Amsterdam for three years where she was a student and danced for the Dutch National Ballet. It was so nice to have Eva and Doug visit us there. Such great memories!

The Istituto is saddened to hear about the passing of Eva Green.
Eva has been a student at the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Toronto for eleven years. She was a brilliant and committed student who enlightened each class with her curiosity and kindness. She will be very much missed by us, her classmates and teacher.

I was privileged to call Eva a friend, though I only knew her for the past 8-10 years, our having met in Italian class. She was unique in combining sensitivity to others, a grounding sense of humour, a keen intelligence, and an enthusiasm for a range of interests...reading, politics, theatre, film, music... Her passion for opera in particular has left a lasting impression on me. I will miss her dearly.

It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Auntie Eva. We are so grateful to have shared in so many wonderful times with Auntie Eva especially Christmas Eve celebrations and summertime at Keewaybeek cottage. Her courage through her last few months and the opportunity to say goodbye has left us full of adoration, love and despair at the great loss in our lives. We will cherish our time together always, with love Amber, Kevin, Maggie, Tessa and Mason.

Our warmest thoughts go out to Doug and family. We will always cherish memories from over forty some years of friendship, from travels together, time at our home or yours and times at your cottage. Some of the best memories are of Eva hurrying oven-warmed china to the table to improve the presentation of wonderful food; of me trying to keep up with her brisk pace of walking; of the glee we both took when beating our husbands at euchre or crokinole; Eva's ear attuned to a Sunday afternoon opera or Cleveland baseball game and her amazing capacity to retain and recount details of a book read long ago. She gifted us with beautiful memories.

I had a privilege of knowing Eva through the Italian Cultural Centre where we spend many interesting hours learning Italian together. Eva is one of those people who elevates everyone around her. Just ask any of her bridge partners. I can imagine she was an outstanding teacher, because she was intellectually curious and genuinely interested in people. She was good at everything she did but you could easily miss it because she was also so modest. I am thankful that MAiD enabled her to depart this life on her own terms. My deepest condolences to Doug and the entire family on the loss of this sincere and gentle soul whose presence you will miss enormously on a daily basis. As a member of the Italian group to which she belonged for years, I had the privilege of knowing Eva and had great respect for her dedication to family and friends as well as her cultural and intellectual pursuits. Eva set the standard as a model of courage, grace, and kindness throughout her ordeal.
