My mother Helen was the Admin Assistant when Mel was Principal at Davisville P.S. She enjoyed working with him -- his joy for life, his kindness and his dedication to education. I didn't know Mel well at all having had only minimal contact with him, but a few years after my mother passed in away in 1997, Mel phoned me, out of the blue. He had such a distinctive voice that I knew who it was even without announcing himself -- "Mel Beyea here". He had been thinking about my mother and wanted to reach out, touch base and see how I was doing. That's the kind of person Mel was. Thinking of others. Caring. May he rest in peace and may his memory be a blessing.
