Sophie Rammell

Obituary of Sophie Rammell

It is sad indeed that we must share the news of Sophie’s death on July 10, 2021 in her 93nd year.  Sophie was born in Detroit, Michigan, the only daughter of Constantin and Mary Culescu. She is very lovingly remembered by her husband of 62 years, John, and daughter, Karina.  Sadly, her much-loved daughter, Jessica, predeceased her. Through marriage she leaves many family members in the United States and the United Kingdom.

She attended Michigan State University, then joined a career consultant firm and, subsequently, was entrusted by the owner to open a branch office in Toronto. She successfully continued this career path in England and, later, back in Canada, and she always said that it gave her great satisfaction when she was able to help young people find the kind of jobs that best suited them and their talents.

Sophie had a great sense of humour, a laugh that lifted the spirits, a talent to connect with anyone who came into her orbit, and an ability to organize, not always successfully, other people’s lives.

She was an active member of the American Women’s Club of Toronto, a one-time member of the Arts and Letters Club of Toronto and a congregant of St. James Cathedral.

Very special thanks are given for the outstanding health care she has received at Mount Sinai Hospital and at Bridgepoint Active Healthcare and, finally, at Rekai Health Centre.

Due to Covid a small family service has taken place, but a celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers a donation in her name to one of the following charities would be much appreciated: L’Arche Canada (l’archecanada.ca) or the Arts and Letters Club of Toronto Foundation (artsandlettersclubfoundation.ca).  Condolences may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.

Dear Sophie, your journey’s footprints are plain to see.
