Elizabeth Laidlaw

Obituary of Elizabeth Ann Laidlaw

Ann died peacefully on Thursday, July 8 2021 in the Palliative Care Unit at Michael Garron Hospital in her 92nd year. Ann was the beloved wife of the late Jack (June 6, 2015), mother of the late Meg (September 4, 2014) and daughter Kate. She leaves her sister-in-law, Jane Dale and husband, William Dale, and their three sons, Michael (Julia), John (Rose) and Tom (Maria); her two nephews David (Teresa) and Mark from her late sister Shirley and husband (Tom).

Ann loved people, good conversations, going to parties, deep belly laughs and was practical - a direct woman who always called “a spade a spade!” She was kind, warm, excellent at supporting people and found her calling in social services. Ann graduated with a Master’s degree in Social Work from Queen’s University.  She worked at the Children’s Aid Society of Toronto, then Community Care East York and finally Sprint Senior Care.  While Ann was at Community Care East York she designed and implemented a new Respite Care program providing services for persons with Alzheimer’s Disease and their families. She continued to supervise and develop this program until her retirement in 2001.

The Celebration of Life will be held at Rosedale Presbyterian Church, 129 Mount Pleasant Road, Toronto, on August 3rd at 2 p.m.
