Passed away in his 94th year in his home at the Dunfield Residence, Toronto.  Beloved husband of the late Thérèse Ouellet (nee Roy).   Loving father of Françoise, Michèle, and Andrée (Ricardo Marius).  Survived by his sister Collette Brosseau. Born in Lac-Bouchette, Québec, Fernand was a French Canadian historian of great impact.  Attaining his PhD at Université Laval in 1965, Fernand taught history at Université Laval, Carleton University, Université d’ Ottawa, and York University.  For his hard work Fernand received the J.B. MacDonald Prize of the Canadian Historical Association in 1977.  He was a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, and served as the honorary secretary from 1977-1980.  Fernand served as the President of the Canadian Historical Association in 1970 and was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1979.  A tireless researcher, Fernand published several works focusing on 19th century French Canadian History.

A humble and gentle soul, Fernand enjoyed cycling and skating on the Rideau canal in Ottawa and skating at Ramsden Park in Toronto as well as going for walks.

The family wishes to thank his personal caregivers Sandra, Lydia and Chieko as well as the personal caregivers from VHA.  We would also like to thank the LIHN, Dr. Naushin Walji and the team at the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care and the entire team at the Dunfield Residence. Special thanks to Connie, Anita, Courtney and Tina for all their support.
