Edith Stuart

Obituary of Edith Mary Stuart

With great sadness we announce the death of Edith (Eve) Mary Stuart on 18 May 2021 after a short illness. She was a very dear Mum, Grandma, and Nan, and a loved and loyal friend, and she is so much missed by us all. We thank the excellent team at Mount Sinai hospital for their great care of Eve in recent weeks, and all the wonderful staff at Meighen Manor, who made Eve’s final days so happy. A celebration of Eve’s life will be held later. The funeral service will be private. Condolences, photographs and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.

Eve’s journey began in 1931 in Montrose, Scotland and for the first forty years she travelled through Dundee, where she studied and where her son Christopher (with whom she has shared many stories of her childhood – including falling in the harbour at Arbroath, holidays at Spean Bridge) now teaches, through London, Tripoli (north Africa) and Germany to Nottingham, where she lived with her growing family.

In 1975 Eve began a new and very important part of her journey when she went to work in Toronto, the city which became her home for the second half of her life.

The children Eve cared for and with whom she formed such a unique bond, and the friends she made, will all remember her in their own way. We recall vividly her sense of humour, her playfulness, her love of driving and reading, her daily delight in doing the Globe and Mail crossword, her warmth and gentleness, her great spirit and her great stories. It’s an abiding delight to imagine Eve telling her many stories to new listeners, who’ll be just as enthralled.

God bless you. Rest in peace
