Obituary of Isabella MacDonald
ISABELLA (ISA) MACDONALD
My beautiful mother, Isabella MacDonald (nee Wayness) passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 23, 2021. She was born in Galashiels, Scotland on October 21, 1930. Her childhood was always spoken of with great love and warm memories of her family which consisted of her parents and three siblings who she adored. She moved to Canada in the sixties following her beloved sister Peggy, and settled into a new life. In 1967 she married the late, great Grant MacDonald and in 1971 had their first and only child Jennifer. Over the years she worked in various jobs, always giving her absolute best and took great pride in.
Having a great love for treasure hunting, from games she played with her father as a child, she took great pleasure in going to garage sales and seeking items new to her. She was an incredible artist, though if you told her so she would be quick to point out how great her siblings were at art, being ever so humble. She loved gardening and could spend hours ‘pottering away.’ A lover of music she could dance up a storm with the best of them.
In2000, she became a grandmother to her only grandchild, Cameron. It gave her immense pride and joy, and in a way, a second childhood. She, to me, was the original superwoman, having kicked cancer’s butt on several occasions for over 40 years. Unfortunately, the last round got the better of her, but not without a fight. Her resilience had no bounds. Throughout her life she made many friends and would never forget a birthday, making sure they knew she loved them. She did the same for her family as well. She was always so thoughtful with those things. She left this world a better place for those who loved her, giving endless memories and lessons on life. We were all lucky to have her.
She is survived by her cherished brother Bill (June), daughter Jennifer and grandson Cameron who lovingly called her ‘the best Nana in the world' as well as countless family and friends. Predeceased by her loving brother Jim and devoted sister Peggy (who died very shortly before her), and her treasured husband Grant. Her memory will live and shine brightly through those who remain and who loved her so.
Fois gun robh aig a h-anom! (Gaelic for ‘may she rest in peace’)
