Rob Badun ... a finer man I have yet to meet since we first shook hands in 1984. We put many real estate transactions together while he was with London Life and then Highstreet in London, Ontario. His loyalty spoke volumes of his character and our relationship carried on for years, even after he, his Eileen and their cubs left for Toronto. One of many memories that stand out was when his father came in from the west to visit and they invited me to lunch at a restaurant of my choice. A Big Fat Greek meal on Mykonos' terrace as we introduced Mr. Badun Sr. to flaming saganaki, souvlaki and Ouzo where Rob would continue pouring this new clear beverage into his dad's glass while he filled ours with water. Rob was giddy pulling this prank on his tall hero, giggling all the way back the car. Even from afar, one could feel the love and respect between these two wonderful men. My respect for him increased to another level. He adored his family and was never shy about hugging and holding them tight no matter where. His smile was infectious and if you were lucky enough to be in his presence whether conducting business, swinging a golf club or sharing a meal, you knew you were next to greatness. I learned late of Rob's passing and it hit me unlike any other of my colleagues who had left us. A special person who personified what a gentleman, husband, father, son, brother and friend he was and one who will never be forgotten. May his memory be eternal.

Dear Badun family, I am so sorry to hear of Rob's passing. I am devastated. Rob had become a casual friend as we shared stories of his leadership at Highview on our way home (neighbours) from PMAC dinners. Rob's generosity of spirit and incredible decency will be sadly missed by so many. I join you in mourning our collective loss. Way, way too early. Rest in peace Rob. David Toyne

To Eileen and family, our deepest condolences. We had the very great pleasure of working with Rob during the early days at Highstreet in London. Our account was the firm's first institutional client, and Rob's strong, confident leadership style and keen industry knowledge was a large reason for our decision at Parkwood Hospital Foundation to move to Highstreet. He became a great corporate partner, and personal supporter thereafter for many years. We particularly enjoyed working with Rob when he helped us to host the visit of former US Vice President, Al Gore.
A very fine man, gone much too soon.

In addition to the incredible accomplishments which Rob enjoyed in business, he was very supportive of his wife Eileen in her legal career, and of his daughters and son in their chosen careers. My heart goes out to them…
Beyond the incredible support Rob gave to his family, he was also supportive of other people he met. After my older son had an opportunity to meet Rob, and the two of them got to know each other, Rob was instrumental in mentoring my son at a pivotal time in his career in finance and investments. Rob supported him in a career-defining moment in his life. Rob continued to be a valuable mentor and a good friend as time went on, always being generous in giving his time to meet or talk.
Beyond the one-on-one support Rob gave in reaching out to other people he met, Rob was also supportive of others through his charitable and philanthropic work, including the many people served by the Fred Victor organization. Rob and I played different roles with Fred Victor. Many people are not aware of the Fred Victor organization. I can say as having been the lead judge for the mental health court at Old City Hall for many years, that the Fred Victor mental health court workers play a valuable role in assisting vulnerable members of the population, who are challenged, and can be challenging as people. I saw first-hand the incredible success that the Fred Victor workers achieved with this population, working one-on-one, connecting them to needed medical resources and counselling, sustainable housing, and for some, education, job training and employment. People that work with the organization, like Rob, were champions for people who greatly needed their help. Rob’s work with this organization illustrated his deep commitment and passion to helping those in need and it is a real tribute to Rob to help continue his legacy of reaching out to help disadvantaged people in our community.

Dear Eileen and family:
We are so sad to learn that Rob has passed. Rob is a dear friend that we will all miss.
Pat and I both got to know Rob in high school and university in Calgary. There were lots of weekend ski days where we would all pile into the car and head up to the mountains to ski. Rob was an excellent skier, and always had jokes to keep us entertained on the drive. Pat enjoyed ski holidays at the Badun's cabin, which was on the golf course at Fairmont, BC.
Rob dated my sister Karen for many years, so we really got to know him well. In the summers, Rob would join us at our cottage on the Shuswap Lake. There were lots of silly and fun adventures during that time. Our cottage was only accessible by boat, so everyone got to know each other intimately. Those were the best of times.
When you two made your life in London, Ontario, we enjoyed staying with you overnight on our cross-Canada trip in 1998. It was great that Rob came to stay with us back in 2013 when we organized a reunion of the “old gang”. We would also like to thank you and Rob for the career advice that you offered to Julia on her university choosing tour, when we went with you two to dinner and the Blue Jays game.
Rob was highly respected by all who knew him. He was a rock – a thoughtful person that many people relied on. Everyone knew that he would be very successful in life. He will be remembered for his broad smile and easy going, yet focused nature.
Hugs to you and all your family,
Jenny, Pat and Julia Shore

Dear Eileen and Family,
I am not quite sure what to write in this post. Rob was a constant in my life. The neighbour, friend and colleague I could always count on. He was very wise, matter of fact and kind. I admired his immense dedication to his family. He often shared stories about his children and especially the joy of his new role as grandpa. He was our kind and dear friend and there's now a void left in so many lives that cannot be filled. We are left with memories, but what a powerful legacy Rob has left us. He was a man of strong character and principles, his achievements were numerous and substantial and his kindly demeanour and unrivalled generosity were profound. I spent many, many hours on the golf course with Rob, and we went on several golf outings together. Getting to know Rob and be part of his circle of friends has been an absolute joy and privilege. Laura also became very close to Rob, having travelled to Waterloo Ontario together with him on many occasions to attend Board meetings. Dear Eileen,
Chris and I were so upset when we heard the news about Rob. Our deepest condolences to you and everyone in your family.
I met Rob exactly 20 years ago. As a junior banker, Rob was my first real (and important) client, and I spent three weeks on the road with him and his team in January 2001. Roadshows can be a grind but there is probably nothing better than a freezing night in Winnipeg (or Regina or Calgary or Edmonton) to bond people. Even though the deal was a risk for his new firm he approached it with a sense of adventure and delivered his message five times a day exactly as you'd expect - with humour, gravitas and the utmost professionalism. He made it easy - it was almost like a three-week vacation; we skated on the Rideau Canal and drank scotch at his parents condo in Vancouver. We spent a lot of time walking around cities and I never saw Rob pass a homeless person or someone in need without giving them money. He was always prepared no matter how many times he reached into his pocket. And he didn't want to make it a big deal for those of us with him - just a quick side step and a kind word. A tiny glimpse into his giant character.
That deal turned out to be so successful that we tried it again that September. We were in the Merrill Lynch office in Vancouver the morning of 9/11, and spent the next week together wondering what was happening with the world (and trying to get back to Toronto). We jogged around the seawall and played golf. At a time like that you needed your friends - I was supremely lucky.
Eileen, we have been separated by distance for a long time, but that had not diminished the warmth and friendship we always felt when Chris or I travelled to Toronto or you and Rob came to London. We will dearly miss him. And we dearly miss you - we can't wait to see you again.

I'm going to miss Rob very much. I came to know Rob when I married Kevin Gillese, Eileen's younger brother, I loved marrying into the Gilleses, and getting to know a myriad of nieces and nephews and brother and sisters in law. Rob Badun was one of my favourites! The memory I want to share is just an ordinary event, not remarkable. But that is what I cherish about it. Rob was in town and phoned to see if Kevin and I were free to visit. Kevin was at work and it was mid-afternoon and I had to go pick up the little kids at school so I asked if Rob would like to walk over to get the kids with me and he said sure. We walked across the golf course in the spring sunshine to the school and waited for my three kids to come out of their classrooms to meet me. They were all excited at the novelty and unexpected fun of having their Uncle Rob meet them. Last night I asked Katie, who was in grade 5 at that time, if they remembered this event and they said of course. I was curious to know what impression Katie had of Rob and Katie replied, "Uncle Rob was tall... but his niceness was taller than his tallness."
You didn't have to know Rob long or well to know what a lovely person he was. When I think of Rob, I will always harken back to a lazy sunny afternoon and his big wide grin and our easy chat walking through the forest path beside the golf course. God bless you, Rob.

Rob was the finest of men and he will be deeply missed by every single person who ever knew him, and most especially by his friends and his family who had the great good fortune to have spent time with him on this side of the bar. He was Robbie to me, and I was Kevvie to him, and I will sorely miss hearing his hearty greeting and seeing his great-wide smile as he would greet me with the warmest of affection. And he did not reserve that affection only for those closest to him, he spread his love and his heart and his great intelligence in a wide arc all around him, and all through his life. It is hard to write this, because I still can’t fathom that Rob is gone. I first met Rob and Eileen in 1985, as a first-year law student. Within a week, my small group was having dinner at their home. You could see then the love that he had for his family at the time, Eileen and Meghan, which only grew when David, Amy and Sarah were born. Throughout the years, we have become family, enjoying so many loving moments. My favourite story of Rob happened one Mother’s day, years ago. I happened to go visit that day, only to find out that Rob had, based on an off-handed comment from Eileen that she might, one day, go to the driving range with him, gone out and bought Eileen a full-set of clubs. That went off well, as everyone can imagine! To top it all off, he wanted me to agree with what he had done. Rob was ever the optimist, but there was no convincing either Eileen or I of the soundness of that decision!
I will always remember Rob for his grin, and his laugh, and his unwavering devotion to his family and to each and every one of his endeavours. He was there in every major moment of my life, always ready to provide sage advice, although often straying into a big brother/father role :-) He was everything to everyone and I will miss him.

Dear Eileen and family,
It was with great shock and a heavy heart that I heard the sad news of Rob’s passing.
I had the fortune and the pleasure of working with Rob at AGF, where I grew to admire his strength of character, unmistakable presence, and his fair leadership. I found him one of those rare leaders that was always willing to listen to ideas, especially if they contributed to the greater good. We continued our friendship later over beers and walks, where we would swap stories and opinions on Formula 1, motorcycles (I often thought that he might ask me to borrow mine for a quick spin) and other common worldly interests. His sense of curiosity was always present. I always parted company with a new joke, valuable perspective and wise counsel, and often what felt like an assignment to try get to the bottom of something we had not been able to answer.
Rob’s belief in the strength of family and in advocating for what he believed in and for those who needed support was ever present. I will forever remember him as that rare combination of a successful, kind and thoughtful gentleman. An example to follow.
My sincerest and deepest condolences on your loss. My family’s prayers and thoughts are with you all in these difficult times. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

I met Rob in 1998, around the time he left London Life to start up Highstreet. He was a client of my firm at the time. Although there were a few years between us, whenever I’d come down to London, Rob, although he was the senior most guy in the room, would always listen respectfully, ask well informed questions and treated me….a kid of barely 24 at that time… as a peer. He was one of 6 or 7 people to interview me years later when I joined AGF and during our brief overlap there, he was the same way…always a great sounding board, and off the job, a fantastic guy to shoot the breeze and socialize with. Dear Eileen and Family,
On behalf of all associates of Russell Investments Canada, we offer our most deepest and heartfelt condolences to you, your children and the entire family. We are saddened by the unexpected loss of Rob. Our Team worked with him through the Stratford Festival Endowment Foundation and over the years he attended many corporate events with our associates. We all enjoyed having conversations and many laughs. He welcomed attending our company box to watch the Maple Leafs and playing at company golf tournaments. He was incredibly proud of his family and shared many stories of all of you. Rob was highly regarded by all of us and we will miss him as an investment professional and friend.
We are keeping all of you in our thoughts and prayers and wishing you comfort and strength for the days ahead.
Sharing in your Sorrow,
The Institutional Team at Russell Investments Canada Limited

To the family of Rob Badun,
It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Rob. As a pension/investment consultant I first met Rob during his tenure at Highstreet Asset Management and continued to work with him during his years of work with the Stratford Festival Endowment Foundation. Rob was a diligent and thoughtful investment professional who worked tirelessly to bring about success in all he did, but more importantly he was a true gentleman. He will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Sincerest condolences,
Brian Goguen

Eileen and family, we extend our sincerest sympathy. This is so difficult to comprehend. Rob will be remembered by so many for all he did and gave. As one of his past work associates at London Life and golfing buddies on many great golfing ventures, he left a great example of ethics, goodwill to society and devotion to family. He will be remembered by so many people and organizations that he helped in so many ways. He will not be forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Eileen and kids:
We are so very sad about Rob's sudden and tragic passing. Our memories of Rob share two common threads: one, his warm smile and eternal good cheer. Whether at Court functions, golf tournaments or dining at Donalda, we always enjoyed Rob's upbeat outlook, his wit and good humour. But most important was his devotion, pride and love for his family. Rob's contributions to those less fortunate further confirmed what a fine person he was.

Dear Eileen, kids, and extended family,
I am thinking of you during this challenging time.
We lost a special one.
I have many (many) fond memories of Rob. One that I remember was his childlike excitement about hosting a backyard brunch with the world’s largest paella pan – “you have got to see this thing, isn’t it awesome”! Indeed, it was but his expression was what I really remember.
I will remember Rob as my friend. He shared many important moments with me. I suppose that is where I will land – he shared. Advice, laughter, book recommendations, plays, dinners, kid stories and so much more.
I will miss him tremendously and keep him in my heart.
Much love,
Bruce

Very sorry to hear about Rob’s passing. He was a great competitor in the game of golf and had the pleasure of playing against him on a couple of occasions at Donalda. He cleaned my clock and consistently outdrove me on those Match Play occasions. He played so well that I gave him the nickname “Boom-Boom” Badun. Condolences from Mary and myself to Rob’s family and friends.

Rob and I had the pleasure of working together for a short time in the twilight of his time at AGF. He was kind, generous and incredibly thoughtful. We established a friendship that continued to today. Rob was always there when you needed him, with a open mind, steady hand and thoughtful advice. My condolences to Eileen and the family.

We are all grieving the loss of the man who brought love and laughter to our family when he married Eileen almost 40 years ago. The bond shared by Rob and Eileen inspired everyone who knew them. Their love lives on in the children and grandchildren who are the legacy of that beautiful union.
Our hearts are breaking as we pray for the entire extended family's strength and consolation. Still, we are grateful for memories of Rob's good humour and great kindness that will undoubtedly comfort us in the days and years to come. Rob's high spirits were a constant source of joy whenever we were together.
Though we are unable to join Eileen and the family in person, rest assured that our spirits are united in mourning our brother-in-law, uncle and friend. We hold Rob Badun in our hearts forever.
Love always,
Mary-Anne and Mike Neal and family

The obituary provides a beautiful snapshot of Rob. I was blessed with him in my life as the best Godfather in the world. He welcomed me, and then my husband, into his family. He supported me and celebrated my major milestones in the most thoughtful and generous ways.
One of my favourite memories of Rob was him teasing me by checking which "stories" of mine he wasn't supposed to share with my family because I was often more open with him about certain life events (e.g. getting hit by a car on my bike going the wrong way on a one-way street and getting a big fine...whoops). I could count on him and Eileen to be caring and non-judgemental. I also loved how he insisted I let him know when I got home safely, even if it was just a quick subway ride away.
He and Eileen are my template for the kind of marriage and family I aspire to have. I will always love and miss Rob, and Joe and I send all of our love to his family.
Love,
Imogen & Joe Ienna

My heart is aching and I want nothing more then to be able to hug you all. The line that stood out most for me was this:
He spent every moment of his life building up those around him, and we are all the better for it.
I will remember Rob as my friend and guide for just about every aspect my life from boyfriends to marriage; kids to career. With every step of the way, Rob, with his sage advice and perspective, was there for me, building me up.
The world has lost a beautiful man.
With all my love and tears, Ceec.
