Obituary of Lorraine Marguerite Arcand
LORRAINE MARGUERITE ARCAND (née O’Donnell)
The Arcand, Harding, Van Bauwel and O’Donnell families are saddened to announce the passing of Lorraine Arcand, who died peacefully at home, on Friday, April 9, 2021.
Lorraine was born in Toronto, daughter of Alice Talbot and John O’Donnell, on November 19, 1934. She was the sole sister amongst five brothers: John, Francis, Billie, Norman and Wayne. Lorraine was raised by her mother Alice and by her beloved Aunt Winifred and Uncle Thomas Craton. Lorraine attended Loretto College School in Toronto and was later employed at Manning Biscuits and Serv-A-Matic Company.
Lorraine met her true love Edmond at a St. Mike’s sock-hop dance. They were married in 1957 and together they had four children: Raymond (Lisa), Michele (Allan), Richard and Nadine (John).
Lorraine was active in her community, including her volunteer roles as sacristan and CWL President at Blessed Sacrament Church, where she was a parishioner for 55 years. She canvassed for the Heart & Stroke and Share Life Campaigns, and later volunteered at Community Care East York.
Along with her husband Edmond, Lorraine took great pleasure in organizing parties for family and friends, taking an annual vacation at Thunder Beach, listening to music, participating in painting classes, and travelling across Canada and around the world.
Lorraine will be missed by her seven grandchildren: Molly, Michael, John, Jacqueline, Savannah, Kate, Elise and great granddaughter Kenna. Each brought endless joy to Lorraine’s life whether at family gatherings or one on one where each was special to ‘Grandma’ in their own unique way.
Lastly, Lorraine will be remembered for enjoying cups of tea, her love of cookies and butter tarts, and for her sweet personality.
A special thank you to Father Larry Marcille, Dr. Matthews and Lorraine’s live-in caregivers Melba and Nelia. Also, to her lifelong friends Terry Flood Dowbiggin, Alice Rubinato; to Nancy and Bob McElhinney, Shirley Kelly, the BS Ski Group, neighbours and other close friends and relatives. She loved you all and you all made a difference in her life.
Lorraine, Mom, Grandma and Aunt, you will be missed dearly by your entire family, but we take solace knowing that you have joined your husband Edmond whom you missed so fondly.
Funeral arrangements will be private with interment at Mount Hope Cemetery. A celebration of Lorraine’s life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity of your choice. Condolences may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
