Mabel Law

Obituary of Mabel G. Law

It’s with great sadness we share the news of Mabel’s passing. After 94 beautiful, fulfilling years, she passed peacefully with her children by her side on March 16th. Predeceased by her loving husband, Dick Law.

She was a loving, devoted wife to Dick for over 64 years. Her greatest pride and joy was her family; including her children, Steven (Faye) and Julie (Dave), and her four grandchildren, Stephanie (Adam), Amanda, Lauren and Lindsay who she loved dearly. She will be greatly missed by her surviving siblings, Gladys (Morley), Doug (Marie) and her many nieces and nephews. Mabel will be remembered for her biggest heart, unbeatable optimism and devotion to family.

Mabel was born in Ottawa, Ontario, as one of eight siblings and from a young age developed deep rooted family values. Growing up, she assisted the family business running a Chinese grocery store, one of the only ones in the city. She graduated from the University of Carleton with a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in English. Mabel met and married her soulmate, Dick, and they settled in Toronto. After working at Bell Canada for a few years, she committed her life to her family. Together with her husband, they pursued their passion for real estate property as they started a family.

Mabel’s compassion for others played a significant role throughout her life. Whether you knew her for a lifetime or only met her briefly, she shared with you her natural positivity and love for life. She gave a heightened meaning to “a glass half full”. Her family was her greatest joy, she dedicated her time to her husband, children and grandchildren and hosted extended family gatherings for her siblings and their families who meant so much to her. Her creative flair and interest for decorating showed in her home that she custom built with her husband. Keeping up with current affairs and sports, whether it be football, hockey, golf, and especially tennis, you could always count on Mabel to know the latest world issues and sports scores. She enjoyed many family trips and was truly the organizer and head of social planning. She will forever be remembered as a stellar force keeping all families together with her love, generosity and pride.

Her gentle presence will be missed but her warmth and kind spirit will be felt forever.
