Robert Swinden

Obituary of Robert James Swinden

After a long illness Rob passed away quietly in his sleep on March 15, 2021.  He was born on June 24, 1945 in Fort William and was predeceased by his parents, James Nasmyth Swinden and Jean Lillias Swinden (McIntosh), and his wife, Georgina Vaughan Swinden. Georgina was the love of Rob’s life, until she left us much too soon in 2002.

Rob graduated from St. Andrew’s College (Aurora) and then Trinity College, University of Toronto with a B.Com. He was a member of the Alpha Delta Phi fraternity. Rob qualified as a Chartered Accountant at Clarkson, Gordon, Toronto (now Ernst & Young) and specialized in using then leading technological audit tools in a computer environment. He pursued his audit interests in careers with the Federal Auditor General in Ottawa, and the Hudson’s Bay Company in Toronto, followed by a number of years of entrepreneurial activities until his deteriorating health required retirement.

In celebrating Canada’s centenary, Rob participated with his Camp Kandalore friends in a canoe trip with a 24-foot canoe, paddling part of the always dangerous north shore of Lake Superior, along the route taken by early Canadian fur traders.

Survived by his brother, John Swinden (Helen), his sister Sylvia Milne and nieces and nephews – Andrew Swinden, Cynthia Doyle, Kevin Swinden, Douglas Milne and Catherine Milne.

We give special thanks to the always caring hands of the staff at Castleview Wychwood Towers and St. Anne’s for their sensitive and high-quality professional care.

Funeral arrangements are assisted by the Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles – Newbigging Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue; an attendance restricted burial by the family is to be at Park Lawn Cemetery beside Georgina. If a memorial is desired, a contribution to Castlefield Wychwood Towers would be most appropriate.  Condolences may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
