I was devastated to just read about the passing of Fran, my very close friend from high school. I lived on the next street over, and we walked to school every morning for years. We were thrilled when Fran’s mom and Aunt Sylvia asked us to help them out at the boutique on Cumberland. We were each allowed to pick out an outfit as a thank you and I remember thinking it was the nicest skirt and blouse I ever owned. We had so many fun times together and I’ve attached a picture of Fran from 1979. It feels like yesterday. My very deepest sympathies on Fran’s passing.

As our boys grew up and went their ways, our paths did not often cross. But I remember Francesca as a lovely and warm presence- always doing something special or making something special. A beautiful individual.

We were very lucky to move in beside Francesca, Steve, Rachel and Adam about 18 years ago. We knew from the first day we’d hit the “awesome neighbours” jackpot. Francesca just had this sort of bright light that radiated all the time; she always had a smile and a happy or witty comment and you always felt a little better after chatting with her. We’d see her out puttering in her beloved flower beds or catching the afternoon sun in her usual spot out back and it was just this sort of reassuring constant in our daily lives, especially over the past year; pandemic or not, there was Francesca, weeding or catching a few rays and making you feel good with a kind word - or a witty wisecrack- all was still OK in the world after all. We are lucky to live in a little enclave on Rushton Road where we’ve seen families come and go and grow; everyone gets along well and knows each other and Francesca was sort of at the middle of our little community universe; everyone liked her so very much. Spring is teasing us now with longer days and warmer temperatures and Francesca would be happily preparing to get busy among her flowers and shrubs, while griping about the still-cold nights and coping with a nice fire to take the chill off. When things start blooming and growing again, I’ll be sure to give her much-loved garden a spray or two while I’m out watering my own shrubs and I’ll think about her when I do; so sad she’s not here but so glad I got to know her and be around her all these years. I was devastated to learn of Francesca's sudden death. Our neighbour, Graham, told me about it when I asked him about the fire trucks I had seen outside his house. I had seen her the week before and told her how happy I was to see her after so many weeks of isolation. Near the beginning of the pandemic, I found two masks stuffed into my mailbox with a note from her. Such a generous gesture. I liked her very much and always enjoyed our conversations. I cannot imagine the devastation of such a loss to her family to whom I send my heartfelt condolences.
