To Nicki, Catherine, Fred and family,
My sincere condolences on the passing of Fred. He was a lovely man, a true gentleman, always kind and thoughtful.
I knew him through my parents, Mary and Walter (Dr. P. Prendergast), and I met him the first time when my father, the 'Doc' at Eatons stopped in to see his parents on the way home from work at Eatons. I also had the good luck to 'babysit' Cathine and Fred and enjoyed his warm welcome, good humour and observed his loving parenting. Over the years the family would get together and he was the consummate host. He was always kind and respectful to my parents, making sure my father got the the "Eaton Irregulars" lunches and stopping in to see them.
His autobiography gave me insight into the depth and breadth of his accomplishments, which I did not have a full appreciation of before I read it. We have lost a true Canadian, a kind, honest and respectful man.
He will rest in peace.

Dear Eaton Family;
My deepest condolences on your loss. I worked for the T. Eaton Company in Winnipeg for a number of years out of high school. It instilled in me how important customer service was in the retail, and how to create effective advertisements. This helped me in developing a successful career in marketing and advertising.
I fondly recall a few years ago Mr. Fredrik Eaton reflected on his visit to the Winnipeg Eaton Store. The Grill Room Restaurant and the Gold Eye which he enjoyed very much... because it was so good! I never had a opportunity to meet Fredrik personally, however in my heart we did.

Dear Eaton Family,
Please accept my condolences on your loss.
It was a great privilege to work for the Eaton Family for over 25 years.
As a company Buyer, I had the pleasure of accompanying Mr. Eaton on a few buying trips to Europe. You could always count on lively discussions of current world affairs and politics at the restaurant dinner table. It was wonderful to be a part of that shared knowledge.

I had the pleasure of working at the Cornwall Centre store in Regina. It was amazing how he could remember names on their annual visits to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and thanks us all for our efforts, day in and day out at their stores. I still have many of the Christmas cards that were sent out yearly and we have a group of employees here that still get together every year for a Christmas dinner and share memories of our times at Eaton`s. Rest in Peace Mr. Eaton. Thanks for all of the amazing memories

Dear Nicky and family...
Please accept, on behalf of my wife Lorna and me, our sincere condolences at this sad time of Fred’s death.
Like so many others, I was a ‘lifer’ at Eaton’s. I had 30 years of service in the Company, including 10 or so at the senior executive level, which of course included working with Fred and others.
Fred loved retail, he loved the family company, and understood and respected it’s place in the life of our country.
Fred always treated me in a first-class manner; I was lucky enough to have lunch with him last year to be able to exchange memories and to thank him for guiding me through an important part of my working career.
He was a sanguine man; I admired him for that. We will all miss him.
Sincerely,
Tom Gladney

My heartfelt condolences to the Eaton family.
I worked for Eaton’s for a number of years through high school and university. It was a true family company, that instilled the value of community and a customer service etiquette that I have successfully carried forward in my own life.
I fondly recall Mr. Fredrik Eaton, alongside his brothers, George, John and Thor, visiting each store during the Christmas seasons to wish us each Happy Holidays. This was an impressive experience that has etched a lasting memory and fondness for your family.
In thoughts and prayers,
Diana F.

Dear Nicky,
I was employed at Eaton's for 17 years, many of which in the Law Department. I spoke to Mr. Fred as Mrs. Smiley would refer to him often as our offices were on the same floor.
On several occasions Mrs. Smiley would call me and ask that I come down to Mr. Fred's office to discuss some matter. Often we ended up having a good laugh.
My family particularly remember being invited by Fred to the High Commissioner's Residence in London for tea and enjoying your chocolate chip cookies.
Fred had a wonderful smile that I will always remember.
Our thoughts are with you and your family.

Dear Eaton Family,
Nancy Austin and I send our deepest condolences on Fred's passing.
I worked at Eaton's for several years in the 90's. Although Fred was in London during most of my tenure, I had the opportunity to meet him on a few occasions. He was a real gentleman, and it was a privilege to have made his acquaintance, if only briefly. I can also attest that he was much loved and respected by my fellow employees of longer service who knew him when he was more directly involved in the management of the business. He will be missed, but forever remembered.
Sincerely, Chris Appleton

As we approach the 100th anniversary of the discovery of insulin, I know how important the support of the Eatons was and is to the advancement of medicine in Toronto, Canada, and indeed the rest of the world. Fred was always so proud of the University of Toronto faculty of medicine, recently ranked fourth among the over 700 schools of medicine in the world. Growing up in Winnipeg, We’re a fan of the “Eaton Family” The Eaton Store basically were very helpful in sustaining our family after WW2: charging grocery's to our “DA account, #11474”, hockey pads (using Eaton catalogues), delivering parcels, and odd jobs in store as a stock boy. Many times we met friends where Timothy sat! Pleased to know Timothy still “sitting” in Winnipeg!
Being born in April, 1938, I followed Fred’s exceptional career through the years.
Please accept our kindest condolences!
