Obituary of Dimitrios Tzekas

DIMITRIOS (JIMMY) TZEKAS

Jimmy died peacefully in his sleep on Monday, February 1, 2021, at the age of 93. Beloved husband of Soultana (“Susie”) for more than 67 years. Loved father of Christopher (Teresa) Tzekas, Maria Kerber and Evany Tzekas. Proud “papou” of Marianne Marcello (Warner Bennett), Nicole (Justin) Michaelov, Garrett Butler and William Butler. Predeceased by his grandson, Austin Kerber. Great-grandfather of Ayden, Hunter, Parker, Carter and Noah Michaelov.

Predeceased by his brothers Elias (Menka) and Anastasios (Amy), his brothers-in-law Constantine (Athena) Rakopoulos, and Fotis (Sofia) Hatziiouannou, and sisters-in-law Kiveli Madenzidis and Aliki (Panagiotis) Zvogiantopoulos. Brother-in-law to Nicholas and Spiroula Kotsopoulos and John and Irene Paliougkas.

Beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews, a cousin and friend to many others.

Jimmy came to Canada in 1954. He brought his wife and son in 1956. Through hard work, determination and perseverance he created a new life for his family here, and helped many others immigrate to Canada to start their new lives. A proud Greek. A proud Canadian. A larger than life personality.

A private family service will be held. Interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Donations in Jimmy’s name may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Hellenic Home for the Aged, Inc. or to St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church.  Condolences may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
