Brian and families, I am so very sorry for the loss of your father's passing. I loved hearing stories Brian, that you would share when we were finishing up a board meeting, or having a cup of coffee waiting for it to start. I was in such awe that he was your dad. Being a big leafs fan, and being Indigenous, I could not imagine a more exciting childhood. Hold on tight to all those good memories you have, it might hurt a bit at first too think of them. You will soon though find that the more memories you share with others the more you will smile, and
the more you will feel his presence. hugs to you and your family.

Dan De Kuyper sends his condolences to family and friends.
There is truly no way I and the millions of hockey fans can express the pride and joy that George Armstrong and his team mates gave to us who lived through those iconic years that our Toronto Maple Leafs won the Stanley Cup. As a kid, I was very fortunate to have attended a few games at the Gardens and cheered on my Leafs, including names like Armstrong #10 with a captain's 'C' on his jersey, and Keon , Mahovlich, Brewer and Stanley...oh, and Eddie Shack !!
I still have the ticket stubs from those games, now 60 years later. Cherished memories from my boyhood. Those memories made me a true blue and white Leaf fan for life. Thank you Mr. Armstrong for all the memories you gave to so many.

To All the Armstrong Family,
There are so many memories I have of George. From hearing about my dad, Don and George living with Grandma Lockhart to memories at the Camp. Still have knee problems and wonder if getting them caught in the banister at Camp years ago and my mom Shirley banging them out free are connected. Lol. George was one of the most humble and upstanding men I have ever had the honor of knowing. His stories were always intriguing and you did not want to miss a word. After my dad died in 1982, George always had time for my mom and he took Shirley and Betty to their annual Leaf game. I was going through moms belongings in December and found every Christmas card and picture Betty sent to mom of the Armstrong family. Thank you Betty Ann for reaching out to me about George. I hope when things get back to normal we can all get together and remember George and Shirley and the good times. My love and condolences to everyone.

My condolences on the loss of your husband and father. I have good memories of George and Lillian on Wahnipitae during summers when I was younger. I remember Aunt Alice and uncle Fred and especially Fred’s cedar strip boat which he would pack all the kids into and tour the lake. George was always good to my parents, kind and supportive of us as kids, and a true ambassador for his profession. He was a fine and principled man and I know that you must all be missing him so much.

Our deepest condolences to George's family. We remember George when he visited Magnetawan, he became one of our customers at the Garage 'Magnetawan Car Care' and he would come in dressed in his coveralls with the biggest smile on his face. We talked about anything and everything. He was a humble and kind soul and was very gracious. On one occasion he required a service call out to his cottage. You thought you were going down a very shady trek, with tree branches rubbing on the side of your vehicle. It was like going down a hobbits hole, but eventually got there. Service call was done and we were on our way. George was a scout at that time but did not let out any secrets. It was so nice each time he came in, just like he knew you all your life. I know he will be missed by so many and the world is a better place because of him. May you rest in peace George. Glad to have known you. Al and Alice Cain

Best wishes to your family. As a kid growing up in Toronto, George Armstrong was my dad’s childhood hero. Fast forward twenty years into the future, he was the first NHLer to give me an autograph when I approached him as a scout visiting the KW aud for an Maple Leafs exhibition game. He was shy and humble when I approached him for his signature. Such a kind man.

As a young teenage boy in the early 60s i was a huge fan of the Leafs and would watch the 2nd and 3rd periods of Hockey Night in Canada from our home in Nova Scotia. Even at 13 yrs of age i would cry my self to sleep if the Leafs lost, especially to the Canadians. Every team had a bunch of great players who could put the puck in the net so no 3rd period was safe. If the Leafs were leading near the end of a game i always felt at ease when Armstrong and Pulford were on the ice with Horton and Baun. Armstrong and his teammates from those years are legends to me and i'm sure to many other fans of the same vintage.
The Chief was a class act.
God Bless to all the Armstrong family.

We were so sorry to hear about the passing of George. My parents Bob and Isabelle so greatly enjoyed anytime they had spent with George. He was such a naturally entertaining fellow. My mom, Isabelle was so proud to be a leafs fan and to be able to say she was related to George. My brother Gord still has a picture of George taken with him a few years ago and he loved the ribbing George would give him about being a Canadian fan. Our condolences to all.

I met George about 50 years ago or so at the funeral of Eddie Armstrong in a little town called Vankleek Hill halfway between Ottawa and Montreal. We immediately recognized George, being lifelong Habs fans. I was just a scrawny girl standing with my parents and George came right over to us, shook our hands and introduced himself. "Hi, I'm George Armstrong, I'm your cousin!" He was so polite and kind and respectful. I was awestruck. His huge smile and the way he could put people at ease. I have never forgotten that important encounter with a wonderful man who, without knowing it, made me proud of my indigenous roots. God Bless you George! My deepest sympathies to all of George's family.

So sorry to hear that George has passed away. I first met Chief 47 years ago while he was the coach of the Marlboros and I was draft choice at my first junior training camp. Through out our lives in order to advance in our careers we need help and support from parents, siblings , teachers, coaches , mentors and sometimes from people you'd never think was in your corner. More on that in a bit
After I was traded from the Marlies to the Kingston Canadians, I would play many games against George and the Marlies so he was very familar with my talent level. Fortunately I went on to play in the National Hockey League with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Pittsburgh Penguins but something happened to me 15 years after I retired that has left a lasting impression with me which will stay with me forever.
While I was coaching a Tier 2 team I happened to see George at the game scouting. As we began to have a chat he pulled me over to the side so it was just him and I and he thanked me. I looked at him with some bewilderment and asked him why he was thanking me and he said "that I made him look good ". I'm sure I had another dumb look on my face but I ask why "I made him look good"
George went on to say that when the Maple Leaf management and scouting staff were looking for a player in the 5th round of the 1976 NHL draft, he suggested that they draft me. Apparently he was met with some dirty looks and some negative comments but he stood his ground and argued for me. Finally he won the argument and I was drafted 84th overall.
But because I went on to play in the National Hockey League he was thanking me for "making him look good." It was the single greatest gesture that someone has ever said and done for me. Driving home that night after the game I couldn't stop thinking about what George had done for me and every time since that day when I thought of George , read his name in the paper or saw a picture of him, I immediately think back on that conversation George and I had at that cold dark arena.
I still can't believe that the greatest captain in Toronto Maple Leaf history and a hockey hall of famer "thanked me ." No George, thank you. I hope that I can pay it forward just like you did for me . Rest in peace my friend

So many kind and true messages have already been said.
"Mr. Armstrong" (that is who he will always be to me) loved more than anything being a Dad.
To be a friend of one of his children, that meant you had to be a good person. He tested us with his jokes. If you actually laughed, I suspect there was an additional feather in your cap. If you loved his camp, one more feather...… Appreciated his treasures he found on the side of the road -"perfectly good, just needs a nail and some glue here or there and a coat of paint", yet another!
I suspect many can add to the list of what made you special in his eyes. Ohhhh, a strawberry pie ranked pretty high as well!
From the many that walked through your side door and were always embraced with a smile, Thank you Mr.A for making us all feel special
