Thank You for Reverend Don or your soothing words and prayers that has helped in making Mom’s journey special.
Catherine and I would like to thank all the family and friends for their kind messages and memories of Mom. The Passmores, Prices, A special thanks to the 48th Highlanders family for their contining support and recondition of all veterans’ and their families.
We have also received an outpouring of messages and prays from Holland, Scotland, Portugal, British Columbia, Orangeville, Lindsey and so many more. Mom would be shy about all the attention and say do not bother everything ok.
Catherine would also thank her community of deaf friends who could not be here with her today to honor her mother. Her closest friends have been providing her with messages of love and lots of air hugs.
A very special thanks to her Personal Support Workers who made every day at her new home comfortable and fun. Mom had to explain the use of hair rollers to them to their amazement and many laughs. She mothered and hugged them during their difficult days.
And thank you Revera staff for all your hard work to keep everyone safe and happy and a special thanks to the food service staff that would sneak ice cream to her all the time.
The Stewart’s adopted me as a son from the start.
Ross did not ask me to learn the pipes but Shirley taught me her tricks in the kitchen and how special Sunday night dinner were for the family. We have tried to reproduce her famous meat loaf, roast beef and but what was missing is the secret ingredient pinch of Mom.
As we looked at all the years of family pictures (that were a pain for me at the time) and a Stewart tradition we saw a common note of love from a beautiful soul.
Thank You all for sharing this day with Mon and remember she loved EVERY ONE.
And as John reminded us this week, we all need to pause and think. What would Shirley do.
Thank You Mom

Catherine Kent ( Stewart)
Always remembering every day as soon as I get out of the taxi from school, there would be mom at the door with Peanut butter and jam sandwiches for me...it was her way wanting to comfort me.
As I was born deaf with uncertain future, mom spent time searching and I always remember the knitted dolls she orders from Spencer Tracy school for the deaf from California. We would be in the garage with our little table and chairs for mom to teach me the words and to speak or identified. She was always patient and was surprised how independent I was and be able to venture out to the real world. She always had time to teach along with her two other daughters and busy life as homemaker and going to work later on.
She always taught us to enjoy life, travel and have fun. Also, I have inherited mom’s love of shopping and too many clothes. Lol
We were able to ensure that mom would not have to leave her Ferris Road and staying with her. Ted became her best roomie and shared the nightly cuppa of tea. We still have mom’s Corning ware tea pot. Ted won’t part with this tea pot.
Ted would hear our giggles between mom and I every night and hearing us saying good night at bedtime.
Also, can’t leave out candies or sweets that I would bring home and to see them disappear so quickly. When I would ask, mom and Ted would be pointing out and saying it was a mouse.
Mom had the heart of gold and would be saying to let go and love everyone with a smile. Right now, if I get cross or don’t want to do, I would stop now and ask myself what would mom say?
Families are number one priority to mom...she just loves to be surrounded by her nephews and nieces along with her brothers and sisters. Especially her granddaughters which she adored.
Thanking for all my cousins for keeping in touch with mom and inviting her out and especially to the annual cottage with my cousins. Also, the annual Remembrance Day luncheon at Swiss Chalet. She just loved so much and so happy.
It’s been so hard since March where I could not visit her every week. We made into a routine where Ted would call mom on behalf of me every night at 7:00 since March and right up to Wednesday night. It gave me comfort that she got our call and knew it would be us calling her at 7:00.
Also, with the pandemic mom and I could not hug even though when we visited her at outdoor visitation. First thing mom would ask the staff coming out if she could hug me. We couldn’t.
Knowing mom is up in heaven with dad along with all her loved one with lots of hugs and kisses.
Will miss mom forever and love her always.

We loved and liked Shirley very much. Especially because of her good
humour and smile all the time.
We were glad that we hosted both Shirley and Ross in our house in Holland.
And also that we were so welcome at their house in Toronto .

Grief never ends, but it changes.
It's a passage, not a place to stay.
Grief is not a sign of weakness nor a lack of faith.

Dear cousins, husbands and granddaughters.
We were so very sad to hear of Aunt Shirl’s passing. She will be greatly missed by all of us.
I will hold dear the Christmases, Thanksgivings and summers we spent together with your family, and my family will have special memories of her time with us at our yearly get-togethers. She was a best friend to Mom, and Dad’s best buddy after Mom passed; she always brought a ray of sunshine into our lives with her warmness and her infectious sense of humour.
I wish we could be there in person, as she has been for our family, when she delivered eloquent and sensitive eulogies for each of those who have passed. She always included a funny little anecdote to cheer us up. She was a true sweetheart.
You are in our hearts. Much love. Mary, Bert and family.

Although I didn't know Shirl as well as many of my neighbors at Madeira Norte, I am saddened by her passing, but know that she had a full and happy life. Shirl was well loved and taken care of by her daughter and son-in-law Linda and John Finlay while in Florida and in Toronto. I would like to extend my condolences to Shirl's family.
