I express my deepest condolences to the Endrenyi family. I knew Lazlo as a sincere scientist and friend who was very approachable and always ready to reach out to fellow scientists. He was very knowledgeable and never feared to express his scientific opinion on subjects that were dear to his heart. At CSPS we could always count on his able leadership to chair scientific sessions at national and international meetings. Lazlo was a true gentleman and he will be greatly missed by the scientific world. May the Lord rest his soul in peace.

Dr. Endrenyi was a gentle person who’s well liked by his students and assistants. As a graduate student working at his lab, I remember him as a private person with a sense of humour and who liked travelling, classical music, Hungarian food, sweets and coffee. He was an easygoing professor and created a friendly atmosphere at his lab. He’s generous and gave his students/assistants thoughtful Christmas gifts and nice restaurant meals once or twice a year. During my graduate studies, one of us created a nickname for him as “Dr. E”, and I think he was rather fond of it. For a long time, he was usually referred to as Dr. E. Though he never mentioned anything to us about his own family, he was kind and listened to our concerns and tried to help when we approached him with our problems. Despite his usual humorous and jovial personality, I remember on one occasion he was emotional and shed a tear during the funeral service for a former student (and friend) who passed away prematurely. He was a kind person who will be remembered fondly.

My condolences to the family on your loss. I had known of Dr. Laszlo Endrenyi back from my time as a student at the UofT, seeing him mentoring fellow students as I peered into his lab within the Faculty of Pharmacy. When working in the pharmaceutical field, I came to know of many of his publications that I would come to rely on for my work. The first time I personally met Dr. Endrenyi was in Washington, DC when a few of us that were attending a conference shared a taxi from the airport to the conference centre. He asked my name, and immediately recognized my last name as a Hungarian one, of course asking me if I spoke the language. From then on, I had met him at several other conferences and despite him knowing so many people, he always remembered that I was the one with the Hungarian surname. A few years ago in Amsterdam, a colleague and I happened to see him manoeuvring his luggage onto the train. Despite his age, he was agile and ran up and down the stairs at the train stations to get to the conference venues. He talked fondly about his travels all over the world. While on the train, he gave me a few tips on which Museums and which areas to visit while I was in Amsterdam. He was a genuine, kind-hearted and inquisitive person, who had a bright and logical mind – a true professor, always willing to teach and also to learn. He is a person who cannot be forgotten.

My deepest condolences to the Endrenyi family. Over the years we met at many scientific meetings, such as CSPS, and the interactions with Laszlo are memorable. Besides his wealth of knowledge, I recall he had a wonderful sense of humor and was a very gentle man. It is quite a loss and he will be greatly be missed.

My condolences on your loss. Dr. Endrenyi was such a fine person. It was a privilege and honor to know him first as a teacher at the University of Toronto more than 30 years ago and eventually as colleagues. He was always supportive of peers and colleagues taking the time to ensure that their contributions were recognized and highlighted. He will be missed. Rob Bies, University at Buffalo

Laszlo kindly paused briefly so I could take this photo. In just a few seconds he conveyed warmth, kindness, intelligence and a sense that you were his friend.

I only met Laszlo after my retirement from Health Canada in 1997 to 7. With our common interest in biopharmaceutics and pharmacokinetics at CSPS as common founder members our paths crossed in numerous conferences and we had some social interests, although the distance from Toronto to Ottawa intervened until I moved to the GTA to be close to my daughter after the death of my wife.At that time he was most supportive and quite content to explain many statistical problems in our common field. I also learned of his love of classical music which we also shared.(and his sweet tooth!)
I shall miss him as a colleague and he is a loss also to CSPS and his area of science. My deepest sympathies are to Veronika and his family in their grief.
Sincerely Iain McGilveray

I did not know Laszlo personally for very long. He had already retired when I meet him. I knew of him for many years before, through his publications and reputation as a ground-breaking researcher. I was pleasantly surprised by is humility and good humor when I met him and always enjoyed speaking with him. A wonderful individual who will be greatly missed.

Dr. Laszlo Endenyi was an amazing mentor, scientist, and friend. He came across as a true old world gentleman. I was privileged to collaborate with him on mutual scientific interests for a brief time. To me, his scientific positions always made wonderful logical sense. I learned so much from him! I thank him for his patient guidance, career support, and kind treatment. Always, Barbara Myers Davit
