My deepest sympathy to Jeanne's family. I too grew up on Chudleigh Avenue at #88 and do remember the Carter family. That block and street was a wonderful place to spend your childhood. I continue to this day to be a close friend of Eleanor Sirman Johnston and she told me of your mother's death. I was often in the Sirman home and would say hello to Jeanne. Thinking of you at this difficult time.

My deep sympathy to Jane, Terry and your families. Jeanne was a wonderful next door neighbour. She was a warm and friendly person who always had a cheerful welcoming smile. I always appreciated how good she was to my mom (the Jean next door).

As our two-doors-up neighbour on Chudleigh Ave., Jeanne has a big and warm place in my memory. She and my Mom (Margaret McGrath) were dear friends and saw each other through many life circumstances, including the raising of seven kids between them. I babysat for Doug, Jane and Terry.
Jeanne was the ultimate optimist - warm, smiling and ready to help. Her service to the community and support of her friends went above and beyond. I remember that she once recruited me and a bunch of my teenaged friends to assist at one of her ROM events.
Tom and I send our deepest sympathy to Jane, Terry and the whole family.

Jeanne came with us on some of our bridge trips. She often attended our Charity bridge functions and came to many of my lessons. She also attended Briars Bridge weekends a few times. She loved life and never stopped smiling. She was just full of goodness and kindness and loved people. They loved her right back. We have known Jeanne for so, so many years. She was a special lady and will be missed by her many friends.
Our deepest sympathy to her family.

I remember Jeannie well from her long time friendship with my parents. She was full of life and humour! I think the last time I saw her was when she gave a toast to my Mom, Brucey Martin, at her 90th birthday celebration - and of course, it wasn't just a toast. Jeannie read out a poem she had created and it both touched us and made us laugh. She was a wonderful woman! I also want to let the family know that on the occasion of our 50th high school reunion last month, there were many, many heartfelt tributes to Doug whose smile and approach to life he inherited from his Mom. My thoughts go out to you all. Peter Martin

Mrs. Carter was an incredible mom, grandma, friend, volunteer, sister, game player, athlete - you name it she was great at it! As a life long friend of Terry's and fellow Chudleigh baby, Mrs. Carter always had an open door and made me feel welcome and special. I also had the good fortune of being her "boot locker buddy" in her latter ski days at Osler and shared a lot of laughs and assisted with the occasional boot buckle closures. Thinking of all the extended Carter family at this time. She lived a great life, exited it peacefully, made a positive difference in the lives of others and leaves countless memories for those who knew and loved her - not much more can be asked for. Carol (Annett) and Rick (Barker)

Jeanne was such a dear friend of our Mom, Joan Randall that I felt she was my friend as well. She was so warm and fun and always had time for us kids. I remember fondly getting together with the Carter family. Like Jeanne, Mom loved the book club and was always looked forward their get togethers. Jeanne will be missed by so many. Jan Randall Gould

Jeannie's granddaughter Sarah wrote this beautiful tribute to GG: She’d want to be remembered with a gorgeous grin, a gin in hand, engrossed in fantastic banter on the sun-soaked rocks of Georgian Bay. Actually she was fairly humble and would probably simply want to be thought of with fondness. Humbler still, she’d likely prefer you remember the lessons she persistently imparted. Problems are solved better with honey than vinegar. But I’ll do better grandma. I’ll think of you often - with enthusiasm.

Delighted by the first snow fall. Dashing down a ski race course in her 70s and 80s. She was a late bloomer with ski racing and won a drawer full of medals just by being one of three in her age category. She even skied Whistler in her 80s. A lesson in spirit and persistence.
-
She’d greet you with open arms, a giant smile, and twinkling eyes while calling your name in a singsong voice. Like you were the single person in the universe she was hoping to run into.
-
She was generous. She helped sponsor and settle a family who came over from Vietnam in the 70s, which inspired my dad to help sponsor a family from Syria many years later.
-
She loved art and history. A ROM volunteer for over 60 years. She organized and led a ROM trip through the Silk Road in China in her seventies. Ever confident, adventurous, and fun.
-
In a quieter way I’ll remember her as comfortingly consistent and fair. She’d never forget a birthday. You could count on that. A fiercely loyal and encouraging mother, grandma and GG. She wasn’t exactly a homemaker. Too busy playing tennis, skiing, or dashing off to a party. But she really nailed lemon squares and deviled eggs and was always a gracious host.
-
It turns out when you adore people that they adore you right back. I’ve been stopped a million times in my life (mostly at Osler Bluff Ski Club) by people wanting to tell me how much they love her. I went in to see her last week and next to her bed was a photo album packed with snapshots of family, friends, babies, parties, smiles, birthdays, cocktail parties, cottage weekends, and ski days. She had it figured out ❤️
