When I moved from Don Mills to Toronto it was grade six. I was rejected by my my home class. Jonathan broke away from the group and friended me knowing he would be rejected as well. That Christmas he dropped by my house with the 45 Tonight’s the Night. Rod Stewart. Sweetest thing ever.

Just after high school, Jonathan, Xanthe Cobb and I took a road trip to Montreal. Jonathan was visiting Susan, Xanthe was returning to McGill and I was along for the trip. I knew Jonathan from Jarvis but after that trip I realized why so many people fell in love with him. He had such a generous, friendly spirit that he could share with others. He teased Xanthe and I for most of that drive, and he did it in a way that you trusted and enjoyed. For the rest of the time we were in Montreal, I wanted to hang out with Jonathan, but he was in high demand. Some people are recognized as geniuses for being smart or good at something. I feel that Jonathan was a genius at expressing that he cared. I'm sure he battled with it, and at times messed up but he was a lot better at it than most of us. It was his gift. We need more Jonathans in the world; and we needed Jonathan for much longer. I'll miss him.

Jonathan,
I will miss the one-liners and zingers that you reserved and timed so well - cracking all of us up!
Your kind heart was bulging out of you, even though you thought you could hide it. I always felt an easy comfort when we were together, as though I had known you so much longer. Only to discover you were born on the same day, at the same hospital as my brother in 1965. We will still celebrate you on May 18, fondly, with hearts that are heavy and light.
Oh our friend, how we do and will miss you.

Jonathon always made me laugh, his sarcasm and wit always shined . I send my deepest condolences to Nicole, family and friends . The world lost a lovely soul on October 25.
