Luule Kann

Obituary of Luule Kann

Luule Kann passed away on October 12, 2020 at Ajax Pickering Hospital after a short illness.  Luule was born in Estonia, near Viinistu, in 1930.  Like many Estonian families, Luule and her family left everything behind in 1943.  Under the cover of darkness they crossed the Baltic Sea in her father’s fishing boat, landing in Finland and eventually settling in Sweden.  Eight years later, Luule left Sweden to start a new life in Canada, making her way to Toronto where she met and married John Kann.  They had three sons, Tom, Alan and Mark.

Luule’s sense of community and love of people shone through in many ways, such as volunteering at her Church or the local hospital, assisting customers at Eaton’s or knitting special items for many occasions.  Her passion was in working with the Estonian Cub Scouts in Toronto, allowing her to combine her sense of community with her love for Estonia.

Predeceased by her two sisters, Vivi and Aili, her brother Peter and her two sons, Mark and Alan, Luule will be sadly missed by John, her loving husband of 65 years, her son Tom, her brother Alex, her daughters by marriage, Karen and Jane, her grandchildren, Tyler, Travis, Trevor and Kiera, her great-granddaughter, Emma, and her many relatives and friends in Canada, USA, Sweden and Estonia.
