What a life, well lived. I knew Blaine from his nearly yearly early fall stops at Monhegan Island, Maine. He was always great to talk with and had a very good eye for art. His enthusiasm was genuine and he bought more than a few paintings over the years. Hadn't seen him for a few years and am sorry to hear of his passing. Condolences to all the family.

I am writing in memory of a great friendship between my late husband Ken Scott and Blane. Ken and Blane were good buddies through public school in Toronto and high school in Port Hope where they had many great times and adventures together. I remember all the fun times Ken and I had with Blane both in Switzerland and at our cottage on Georgian Bay with other mutual friends. I send my love and thoughts during these sad moments to Blane's family. My condolences are with you.

What a rich and generous life Blane enjoyed. Adventure was always on his "To Do List" and he wanted to share it with as many of his family and friends as possible. My husband, Bill Amos, worked with Blane for many years at Liftow and they often travelled together on business; always fitting in a little pheasant hunting in Wales, or on one occasion fox hunting in Ireland. I think it may have been a first and last for Blane as hunting in Ireland is not for the timid. Bold and courageous horses that took ditches and stone walls without hesitation. To his credit Blane stayed the course and while admitting that he was terrified at times, said it was one of the most exciting days of his life. My Bill passed away two years ago, and I was so touched that Blane in his usual generous manner made the trip to Kingston to pay his last respects. He regaled the funeral gathering with an animated and humorous version of his fox hunting adventure and everyone enjoyed it no end. He left a little early as he was concerned for his young hunting dog that was waiting for him in the car. I was so pleased to see Blane and happy to give him one of Bill's hand made walking sticks with a pheasant embedded in the handle - it looked as though it was meant especially for him. It was our pleasure to have known Blane and the family is in my thoughts and prayers today as you struggle with this huge loss.

Our deepest condolences to all the family. I had the pleasure of working with Blane (Liftow Limited) for many years and still do.
Blane was always a gentleman and always had a smile and a "good morning" for everyone.
I am sure he will be deeply missed.

One of the best sail trim moves ever belongs to Blane. Mid Atlantic huge tail wind and 20 plus foot waves. You could not carry a spinnaker ( most were blown out anyway ) and as you tried to head towards Ireland Scaramouch entered the death rolls.. not a lot of fun. Finally Blane called to take down the main which we did, set 2 Genoa’s one off the spinnaker pole and we could now steer directly to Cork riding huge waves to victory. Thanks Blane for the ride. Best wishes to All ! Elliott Gunn

Dear, Mike, Tim, Jenn and Bowen family,
I am so sorry to learn of Blane's passing and send you my deep condolences. The obituary was a memorable description of the richness of Blane's life. The one thing it does not mention is what a marvellous raconteur he was. I can still remember many of his stories about the wonderful places he and Sally had been and the interesting people they had met. Whenever I stayed with Sally and Blane which was often while working for YD I always looked forward to coming home to hear about more adventures.
I will always be grateful to Blane for opening up his house for me when ever I was down in that area.
Please know that you are all in my thoughts at this sad time.
Fondly
Helen Douglas

Dear Hillary, Mike,Tim and Jenn and Bowen family,
I am so sorry to learn of Blane's passing and send you my deep condolences. The obituary was a memorable description of the richness of Blane's life ,his adventurous spirit, his deep pride in his family, his service to community, his artistic eye and involvement and his business success. He was truly "a man for all seasons". My personal best memories of your family are from your early years in Chester. I can still vividly picture beautiful Atlantica anchored in Front Harbour with all of you as little children with Mom, Hillary, living on board ,alone during the week and Jenn still a toddler while Dad, Blane, was at work in Toronto. I also remember being on Atlantica for many glorious sailing races long ago. How lucky our family were to have that experience.
I hope that your memories of Blane and the stories from friends will give you the love and support you need at this very sad time.
Sincerely,
Elaine Solway

Blane and Sally were two extraordinary people who I met through the late Andy Bronfman. I was smitten by their love, their sense of adventure and curiosity. Even Sally’s tragic passing could not quench Blane’s warmth nor the twinkle in his eye. He led a very meaningful life.
