I was very saddened to hear of the passing of my good friend David's mother Anne. David adored his Mom and spent a great deal of his time caregiving during the past few years while she was in decline, sharing duties with his brother Andrew. David was a proactive and tireless advocate, he and his brother Andrew insisted on the best for their beloved Mom. Although the caregiving took up a lot of time, there was nary a complaint. Despite her ailments and physical decline, the fact that his Mom remained feisty, sharp witted and good humoured - with a penchant for homemade soup and good wine - buoyed David and Andrew's spirits in these final years. I know that Anne will be dearly missed by both her sons as they cared and loved her deeply. She raised wonderful sons that are a testament to her as a Mother. RIP Anne, I know you'll be greatly missed but there are many memories that will be cherished. Dusty Reeves Friend of David Hurlbut

So sorry to hear of Anne’s passing. We were good friends that went way back, 55 years - the good old GF days!! Our friendship continued long distance when we moved to Connecticut we kept in touch and would visit when I came to Toronto! Sincere condolences to David and Robert. Louise Laragh

Andrew and Susan, I am sad to learn of the passing of your mother. Although I did not know her I knew of her through the Fosters next door here on Georgian Bay. By Helen Skinner Anne Hurlbut Anne Hurlbut was a member of the Garden Club for forty years. She served on the Board many years ago,loved being involved in Flower Shows and,latterly, was a hard-working and much appreciated member of the Archives Committee. Her major contributions for the Club were made, quietly and efficiently, as Chair of two very successful projects - the Roof Top Garden at the Rotary Cheshire Apartments for the deaf-blind and for the North Court Garden at Roy Thompson Hall. Anne and her committee did much research before finding furniture to be used in the Rotary-Cheshire Roof Top garden, also easy-to-maintain containers and, finally a variety of plants with colour, texture and fragrance that would give the residents a new activity and much pleasure. Anne and the Committee were so pleased with the residents' response to their work and the heartfelt appreciation that was expressed. Again with the North Court Garden, research was necessary to find the rocks and trees that would create a natural looking island in the water not only for the immediate visitors but for the public looking down at the garden from the railings along King Street. Anne's reports, given with a little twist of humour, delighted and amused the members as she told about the hunt for lightweight rocks (eventually artificial) and their final placement by gigantic cranes which blocked the traffic on King Street but gave the passing pedestrians an amazing sight. The finished garden seemed so natural that in the first year a family of Mallards raised their ducklings in the water surrounding rocks and plantings of the island. Today, King Street walkers, looking down at the garden are transported, momentarily, to norther Ontario thanks to the Garden Club and Anne and her Committee.

My deepest condolences. I met Anne while taking some pictures of her family and just felt this incredible warmth from her. I spent only a few hours with her, but I really remember how amazing she was and what a welcoming spirit. Crushed to hear and I am thinking of her family during this difficult time. All the love.
