Adeline Lashley

Obituary of Adeline Elizabeth Lashley

Adeline Brathwaite came into this world on December 23, 1923. Born in Carriacou, Grenada’s tiny and beautiful sister island, she spent most of her life in Grenada. She was the second of ten children born to Charles and Sophia Brathwaite. Being the first girl, she knew she was the apple of her father’s eye, and she was full of stories about her father, and the treats he gave her on the way to school, and otherwise.

Adeline was a woman with gifted hands. Her creativity was expressed in the beautiful hand embroidery she produced, leading people in Grenada to seek her services to transform clothing into unique and intricate works of art. Her crotcheted tops and tablecloths and bedspreads were unique and coveted.
