Dear Allan,
I am so very sorry to hear of Denise's passing. Please accept my sincere sympathies.
I knew Denise only briefly. But in that time, experienced her smiling eyes and joyous heart and warmth, kindness and generosity, her strong character and sense of responsibility, and willingness to do her bit to make things work, and speak up and take action regarding matters that were important to her. A gift and inspiration to all.
Thinking of you, and holding you and your family in my prayers,
Liz

I’m shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of Denise. I was fortunate enough to work with Denise in my early years with the City Planning Division. During my time on the 18th floor of City Hall East Tower we became friends and gym buddies squeezing in lunch time fitness classes during our hectic busy schedules in the basement of City Hall. As a colleague she always found time to provide guidance and give me support. Though we lost touch over time I will forever remember her caring and sincere gentle nature. She was a special person. God took her too soon. My heartfelt condolences to her family. Rest In Peace Denise, colleague, mentor and friend.

I went to high school with Denise. Denise was very smart and always smiling. She was Also kind and Had a great sense of humor. I remember her sister Kim as well. I am sending you my deepest condolences. My sister saw Denise’s obituary in the newspaper ad thought I might know her. I was shocked to hear about Denise’s passing. I live in Virginia and lost touch with Denise after attending Ryerson. Her smile, kindness and warmth will always be remembered. I’m so sorry for your loss.

On behalf of Denise’s great big Toronto City Planning family present and past, deep sympathies from us all - Denise was a big contributor to the planning work and the spirit of people who did the work - she was also committed to relationships - the fine art of city building - working with people to realize change and a better city. Her hand prints have touched many and she was loved. Photo is dinner with her last summer and her former colleague Jane. Rest In Peace Denise

I first met Denise in 1974. It was the first day of Applied Geography at Ryerson. She was from Don Mills and I had grown up in the city. We immediately clicked. We shared many adventures during those 4 years. Life was good to us, though tough times were there as well. Over 40 some years we stayed in touch. Cards and e-mails kept us in each others lives. It was 2 ½ years ago that we finally met again in Ottawa. Denise came with Alan, who was attending a conference. I had arranged with Denise to meet at the National Gallery. I couldn't wait for the day to arrive. We arrived within minutes of each other. We both were on the lookout. And then, we were together. A big hug. It was like we had never parted.
The stories, the memories, the laughter – it all came back so naturally. We toured the Gallery and we talked and reminisced. We got lost and we laughed. We had a great lunch and the stories, hopes and wishes continued. We shopped at the Gallery store. At the end of the day, we parted. Another big hug and promises to keep in touch. Denise had a joy for life, for her family and for her friends. That never changed. She leaves a son and husband but also memories that are a part of my life. I am sad to hear of her passing. Denise you are my friend.

I am so very sad to hear of Denise's passing. She was such a loving, caring person and a dear friend of mine. I first met Denise while working in the Planning Department at Toronto City Council in 1989 while on exchange from Melbourne. Denise went out of her way to say hello, introduce me to others and make me feel welcome. I remember very fondly being invited to the family cottage at Sturgeon Point one weekend over summer, meeting her extended family and trying my best (somewhat unsuccessfully) to water ski. We kept in touch over all these years and I always looked forward to receiving her end of year Christmas newsletter. In December 2014, we were fortunate to stay with Allan and Denise while visiting Toronto and loved catching up with them and Ryan. Our daughter and her friend also stayed with Allan and Denise while touring North America in 2018. They were wonderful hosts. I have shared a photo of our visit in 2014 - it's a little bit blurry, but shows her loving smile. Our sincere condolences to Allan, Ryan, Kim, Ashley and family. Love from Peter, Tricia, James and Alexandra (Melbourne Australia).
