David was a good friend and a wonderful scientific colleague. I frequently tapped his knowledge of muscle function in my lab's pursuit of the gene responsible for muscular dystrophy. And when he proposed that the gene encoding the calcium release channel in muscle might be the gene responsible for malignant hyperthermia, we joined forces with him in proving this to be correct. He was a true scientific leader who never let his astounding success impact on his humble nature. His love for science was surpassed only for his love for Linda and we enjoyed their company many times over the years. Rest in peace David.
