I just heard yesterday about Jim's passing, from a mutual acquaintance who, along with myself, worked with him at Sterling Drugs. Jim was an exceptional Marketer, even at this early stage of his career, and was, more importantly, an invaluable mentor and role model for me when I reported to him right of school, as I managed some of the Company's lesser brands. I had lunch with Jim, just 4 years ago, and we enjoyed catching up and reminiscing about those long past days. He still had that twinkle in his eye. A truly fine individual. To the family, please accept my condolences, and focus on all the good memories.

My husband and I lived next door to Heather and Jim 20 years ago and shared much, including our love for Westies. We had the great privilege of watching Sarah and Kristy grow into fine young women. Our hearts go out to them in what is another tragic loss. Keep the good memories and remember that your parents loved you both very much.

Please excuse my comments if I have the wrong person, however I wish to express my condolences to the whole family and network of friends of James. If I have the correct person in mind, Jim and I were high school colleagues at East York Collegiate in the years from 1962 to 1966. I remember Jim fondly as one of the smartest and most balanced person from my life during that time. That is saying quite a bit considering how full of ourselves we were in those teenage years, but not Jim. Regrettably my life after university took me to Africa and I lost touch with many of my friends and acquaintances. Jim was definitely someone whom I would have loved to have reconnected with. I am thoroughly impressed at the choice of Black Lives Matter and will do my best to make a donation. Even though he appears to have had a full and meaningful life, I am so sorry to hear that his has gone so soon. If the family would appreciate any memorabilia from his days at EYCI, I do have our graduating yearbook and others years as well. I can be reached at paulwilson462@gmail.com With sadness, Paul Wilson

My condolences to the McKenzie family. I worked with Jim for over two decades while he was at Leo Burnett and I was at P&G. He was such a positive person, with a constant smile and a quiet resolute manner. Much was accomplished under his leadership and he always showed how much he cared about people and his work. May his memory live in your hearts forever and know that his life mattered. A donation is being made in his name to Black Lives Matter. With sympathy.......Barbara Fraser

Dear Sarah and Kirsty
Your wonderful Dad Jim was a king in his work
Yet humble in his attitude towards people
and always aware that there were others to consider including your wonderful Mother Heather
you lovely girls and his 2 beautiful grandchildren
I know you both loved him
and he loved you girls
and Violet and Henry
I guess losing Heather was too much for his heart to bear
And who could argue that?
She was the queen to his king
It all makes me very sad
But we can imagine them reunited now and both at peace
With much love and respect
Calvin Hambrook

It's with deep sadness that I learn of Jim's passing. He had a powerful impact on me professionally and personally. I know that I am not alone in that. His genuine warmth, smile and laugh will live on with everyone. I wish family and friends peace and strength.

Spending time with Jim and Heather was one of the great joys of our life.
Eleanor and I had the great good fortune to be able to travel with them on “business" (or so we said ;-).
I only have photos of Heather,Eleanor and me because Jim was always behind the camera.
I added a screen grab from video of Jim on stage at an agency function.
He was an inspiring leader.
Your description of him as " raconteur with a twinkle in his eye" is so true.
His humour and kindness made our work life together one of the most fun times in my career.

So very saddened to hear of Jim's passing. We enjoyed many years of sharing cottage life with Jim and Heather..
Loved seeing them on the dock, on their daily walks, great chats at the tennis parties and get togethers. Both Jim and Heather so cherished the love of family, their beautiful daughters, son-in-law and precious grandchildren.
May God Give you all Comfort and Peace in the difficult days ahead.
In Our Thoughts and Prayers,
Love and Hugs,
Ron & Karen Jones

To the family of Jim
I read of Jim’s passing and send my condolences. I knew Jim from East York days through his good friend George Koroloff. Then over the years our paths would cross as he rose up the corporate ladder . It was always great to renew our acquaintances as he had a quip and a twinkle in his eye as you so aptly described in his obituary . He had a remarkable and successful career and I know that family was so important to him. I am sure as time passes you will have memories of many wonderful and happy times together .
I am sorry for your loss

I was Director of Advertising and Sponsorship at Bell Canada in the 1990's. This provided me a great opportunity to learn from Jim here in Toronto and in trips to Leo Burnett, Chicago. Jim and Heather hosted great Christmas parties for friends and clients. Jim also sponsored my membership to the Summit Golf Club where I am still a member, and occasionally played golf with Jim and his friend Tony Altilia. Great memories, and sincere condolences to the family. Nick Marrone

I love seeing this picture of Jim and Heather in Cannes. I was there, too. I was at the front of a huge line because of where I worked. I saw Jim in the crowd and waved him up. The first thing he said when he joined me I was, "I was just thinking, 'I hope I was nice to her when she was at Burnett'." Jim was more than nice. He was kind, helpful, and a wonderful leader. He was so proud to bring his sweet daughters to the Christmas parties. Rest in peace, Jim. My sincerest condolences.

I knew Jim from back in the day when I worked at Leo as a creative. He was a great guy to work with. Smart, thoughtful and considerate.
