Written by Aubrey Smith It has been my great privilege to have been Lil's friend since 1964 when Lil, Viv Campbell, Bob Stokes and I met at William's forging life long friendships, sharing many good times. Across the hall from Lil, I enjoyed "cooking/baking days, often getting samples. She also taught math, and for many years, summer classes for teachers at U of T Faculty of Education. She received her MA in maths and logic from Iowa State university in 1969. In retirement, she read deeply in quantum physics, attending many lectures at the Perimeter Institute in Waterloo, once hearing in person Stephen Hawkins. For several years, Lil took Gaelic classes at U of T and spent some summers at Gaelic College, Cape Breton Island, also honing her Scottish Dancing. Proud of her family tartan she visited the family farm on the Tantramar Marshes in New Brunswick, relatives in Ireland and Scotland. Lil shared Viv's love of sports, coaching volleyball, horseback riding in King and the Rockies. She hiked the Bruce Trail, skiing in Ontario, Quebec and Alberta, many times with Bob and Viv. Golf was her great love. She generously treated us to wonderful formal dining at Ladies. A great fan of opera, she visited Covent Garden and The Met claiming that fashion and shopping were secondary. We shared many concerts most notably at Tanglewood while camping on October Mountain. A feminist, she once in a full staff meeting rebuked a new Principal. Secretaries are professionals, NOT "the girls in the office", though she used the term "gals" all her life. A strict grammarian, she would say on phone, " It is I". Lil became an enthusiastic member and hard worker in Trinity Anglican Church enjoying the high quality of organ and choir. She loved nature and gardening. She gave Bob such a wonderful garden tomato at a staff lunch one day that he immediately proposed marriage. She declined. Wonderful memories of a very full life.

Dear Family of Miss Forgrave and to Aubrey Smith I was a Home Ec student of Miss Forgrave's at GW Williams (1964-69). She taught me how to use a sewing machine and to bake bread with yeast....life's skills. Audrey Smith- my thoughts are with you also. You were one of my English teachers, regards to all, Anne Weldrick

As I am going through boxes of photos, I understand that my Auntie Lillian appreciated the beauty in many things. There are photos of nature's beauty - towering trees, rushing rivers, spectacular sunsets, captured in all seasons, as she hiked the Bruce Trail. Photos of spring tulips, summer lilies and towering sunflowers demonstrate that she enjoyed gardening, and appreciated the beauty in nature around her. There are photos of people in her life - friends, family, groups with which she enjoyed Scottish Dancing, golfing, quilting, hiking and church events. Her passports tell the story of many trips to islands in the Caribbean, especially Grand Cayman, where she enjoyed snorkelling and scuba diving. Auntie Lillian enjoyed various types of classical music, enjoyed attending concerts, and was encouraging her great-niece Laura (age 11) with her flute playing as recently as February this year. Auntie Lillian's own artistic talents are preserved in the beautiful quilts and wall-hangings she created after her retirement from a long career in teaching. We would like to thank the staff at Hollandview Trail in Aurora for their care and compassion. We would also like to express our thanks to the medical staff at Southlake Regional Health Centre, especially to the nurses who were there taking care of Lillian in the past few weeks, when family and friends were not allowed to visit due to the pandemic.
