Dear Don & family of Phyllis Cooper,
I am deeply saddened to read about Phyllis’s passing but I am incredibly happy to have made her acquaintance in the summer of 1985. We met on a course of study at the Université de Grenoble, France. We became travelling buddies on weekends along with another lady from Switzerland, all 3 of us French teachers. There was one weekend in particular that I will always remember (and there were a few!) We spent an evening in Cluny near a Benedictine Abbey, founded in 910. This place rapidly became the most powerful place in Christendom after the papacy. The three of us wandered over to explore the interior, unfettered by tourists or tour guides back then. It was here that Phyllis decided to test the acoustics and treated us to a solo performance of Ave Maria, in a chapel partly in ruins. Needless to say it was a singularly remarkable and yet quiet non-event. Only the best kind! Phyllis clearly left her mark in the world and inspired many as a teacher of French and of life. She has now joined a special choir on high. Sing and be free, dear Phyllis. And thank you for your friendship and your gift of music during my 1st solo summer abroad.

Don and the Cooper Family,
We were saddened to learn of Phyllis' passing when we attended PCYC Sailpast this past Saturday. Phyllis was always a spark and very passionate about life. With our daughter in French Immersion Schooling, the resources Phyllis brought to make French come alive were very welcome. Alas, we never had the pleasure of hearing her sing. We will remember her fondly. Au Revoir, Madame Parapluie.

Don and family I am so sorry for your loss. I learned all about the grandchildren from Phyllis who always had a story to share-she so adored them. The thing I appreciated most about Phyllis (apart from her crazy sense of humour) was that she always wanted to know about my children, listened generously and often had just the right advice.

Several years ago my husband Gary and I were invited to Phyllis & Don's Condo at Harbourfront. We were amazed by the gorgeous view they had of the lake, then by their generous brunch with much wine consumed ....but most of all by a chance to hear Phyllis sing, on record of course, an operatic aria in her glorious soprano voice. We lost track of each other but kept the memory of that lovely afternoon much in our. Thinking of you, Don, with our condolences. Rene Laukat and Gary Meier of Riverdale.

All my memories of Phyllis are happy ones of admiration for her talent & presence at rehearsals, in concert, on tour & as a friend. May her soul find the right spot in the universe to share her charm.

I am so sorry to hear about Phyllis's passing. She was a remarkable woman. Always full of fun. I knew Phylis through her work at the University of Toronto Standardized Patient Program where she worked portraying a number of patient roles as well as supporting the big medical licensing exams. She portrayed a number of different roles for the medical students over the years, remarking once that she received a standing ovation. It was always Phyllis and Don together both so generous with their time and stories and jokes!. My sincere condolences to your family

Dear Grandma,
We had so many amazing memories together that I will always remember. We used to go out a lot, one of my favourite places to go with you and Grandpa was the yacht club. We would go sailing and eat the best breakfasts together. I also loved going to the chalet. We would stop at the library where you would buy me books. You also used to buy me art supplies and crafts which we would do together as an activity late at night. You thought me how to play the piano and had a lot of patience with me when I just wanted to learn the beautiful pieces you knew right away. I remember from elementary through high school I couldn’t wait until Fridays. Our whole family would come over to have your famous roast beef dinners, with Yorkshire puddings, Grandpa’s amazing mashed potatoes and we can’t forget my favourite part… Kahlua cake! I remember when I was younger, we used to talk about when this day would come. I promised you that I would remember you as the best chef in the world, and I will always remember you by that of course, but also by so much more.
I love you, Grandma.
