Thinking about Fran a little extra today, I can’t believe it’s almost been half a year... A couple years ago, when 17-year old me moved to England for first year university, Fran sent me a care package with a handmade card, cut in the shape of a person with two big arms to ‘send hugs from across the pond’. It was those small gestures that made Fran so ‘Fran’, and I can only hope to be half the person she was during her time with us here. I am so grateful that she became part of my parents’ lives all those years ago, and that I had the privilege of knowing her kindness and warmth.

From the first conversation I ever had with Fran, maybe on someone's deck near the end of a school year, I always felt like she had always known me. What a capacity for connection. We are all thinking of you while you grapple with such a tender loss and missing Fran's smiling face and wave while walking the dog or dropping into a backyard in the neighbourhood. She is missed. love the Dunkelman Family, Tracey, Jonathan, Tallulah and Wyatt.

Upbeat, grounded,, pragmatic and energetic... Fran was always a bright light at The Fairlawn Neighbourhood Centre whether she was attending programs with her little guys or volunteering with her tag team on registration night. It would be hard to find a better role model than a Fran. This is the invaluable gift she has left for all of us.

Passing along my sincere condolences on Fran’s passing.
It’s hard to know what to say at a time like this. I know Fran from working with her for 5 years at OLG. She was my go to person there, we’d talk about business, HR matters and life in general. My sons were a little younger than her sons and daughter, so I’d look to her even on parenting advice.
I remember asking her once about the Pokemon cards in her office, Fran said she was trying to learn the Pokemon characters so she could talk to her sons about something they were very interested in.
There are people you run into in your life who you look up to as a role model, Fran was one of those people for me. She was so fiercely proud and devoted to her family, whom she talked about a lot. Her positivity, compassion and energy for people and life was endless.
Her spirit will live on forever in the memories of those that knew her.

Dear Jay and kids, Teresa and I want to express our deepest condolences on Fran's passing. We loved her. We witnessed her passion for life each and every time we were with her. We will miss her warmth and generosity of spirit. We will miss also her strength of character and ability to solider on even through the very toughest of times. She left her mark on this world and ultimately left it in a better place than how she had found it. We wish you comfort through this difficulty time. John & Teresa.

I first met Fran at Queen’s back in 1988. We shared a lot of laughs together over those 4 years. Fran was always so positive, cheerful and encouraging, no matter what was going on. As those around her were stressing about an assignment or exam, Fran remained calm, cool and collected. So sorry we lost touch over the years. Our condolences to Jay, the kids and all of Fran’s family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Margaret and Andy

We want to address this to all who were so much a part of Fran’s life - to Jay, to Chris, Andrew and Erin, to Heather and Sarah and others who are here with us from afar to honour Fran’s memory. She was such a vital part of her family for whom she was a loving wife, a mother, a devoted sister, a cousin, an aunt, a niece, a sister in law and for us a daughter-in-law. To countless others, she was a friend, a colleague, an incredible role model and an ever joyous companion.
The qualities in Fran were what we all aspire to - integrity, strength, the courage of her own convictions, selflessness, kindness, boundless energy, a wonderful sense of humour and generosity of spirit. And from their earliest moments, she and Jay, instilled these same qualities in their children.
From the moment you guys were born, we marvelled at your Mom’s inherent maternal skills and how quickly they kicked in, how wise her judgements were going forward, through your first "everythings," how she juggled so many balls at the same time from school drop offs and pick ups to homework - your countless activities whether it was getting you ready for camp, sleepovers, soccer, swimming, squash, rugby, tournaments and/or competitions, how well she and your Dad managed their life together, how she designated special time with your Aunt Sarah and Heather, who she loved so much, as well as the rest of the McDonald clan, her many friends and her full time professional responsibilities which she carried out so capably. And she did it all with such ease and grace - 12 dozen cookies for a bake sale tomorrow - “no problem,” volunteering for this or that - “of course,” being a mentor to her colleagues, “anytime,” the list goes on and on.
How sorely she will be missed. What a legacy she has left for all of us to live by and how grateful we are for everything she gave us. Know that she has a permanent place in our hearts where she will stay forever; also how much we are thinking about you all, wishing we could be closer and how much we will look to our next visit. How strong and comforting you all were for Fran during her illness. She’s looking down now and is so very proud.
God speed her passing.

Please accept our heartfelt condolences on your loss. We were lucky enough to get know Fran at U of T in early 90’s, and to be part of the joy and laughter we shared in our Canadian journey with the close-knit MIR cohort of the time. As strangers from the other side of the world, we were welcomed into the McDonald universe with open arms. Fran was someone with so many exceptional qualities, not the least of which being her clear love of and devotion to family, and a generosity of spirit that made it impossible for her colleagues not to gravitate to her. We’re proud to call her our friend. She will be sorely missed, but equally, the memories will be all the more cherished.

I was deeply sorry to learn of Fran’s passing – such a great loss. Fran and I became friends while in the same program at UofT. While we reconnected only occasionally and our lives had evolved, it always felt like time hadn’t passed. I will always remember her thoughtfulness, intellect, fun loving nature and most of all her friendship. And, who can forget that engaging grin when something humorous emerged. She always beamed when speaking of any of you - pride and pure joy. She was a very giving soul and always had great interest in those around her. Your tribute is a beautiful reminder of all of this.
My sincere condolences. May your many memories ease your loss and give you solace. She will always be as close as your heart.
