I met Christine through her PR work pitching her clients’ projects to the Toronto Star. Always so lovely to deal with and eager to chat beyond the business of the day. She was also such a kind and attentive host who introduced me to the Canadian Open. I hadn’t heard from her in well over a year or so and didn’t know she was so ill. My condolences to her family.

While it has been many years since I worked with Christine during the early years of TIFF, I have always remembered her as someone who always stood out from the crowd - certainly through her superb professionalism, but especially by her grace, elegance, and innate kindness. I send my most sincere condolences to her loving family and dear friends.

The world has lost a wonderful lady this week. I had the privilege of meeting Christine Yankou many times over the past 24 years working with her in her role as Publicist for the Sault’s own Dr. Roberta Bondar. Many of the major Sault based events supported by Roberta’s participation were coordinated through Christine. More than once Chris came to my assistance when navigating an important community event here that required juggling in Roberta’s schedule, recognizing how much supporting the Sault meant to Roberta. On occasion, that meant the loss of paid Speaker’s fees for Roberta and of course commission for Christine Yankou Communications. Chris was a class act. Excellent people skills, a good and loyal friend and business associate to Roberta. I am glad I had a few opportunities to be in the company of “Miss Chris”.
