We were neighbours and friends of David for many years, having met him through "dog park", with Teddy and Cindy at that time, and later with his adoring Opal. When my husband died, David was kind and supportive of our family. He shared his interests and love of his dogs with us and was a very interesting person. I especially enjoyed seeing his eyes light up with mischief when he thought of something he felt might shock or surprise and laughed when he delivered his punch-lines. We always looked forward to being able to listen to his latest tales and were very touched by his devotion and tenderness to his dogs, especially Opal in her last days.
We will miss David very much, especially Elizabeth and myself. He was a wonderful neighbour and friend. Please accept our sincere condolences.

Thanks so much Bill for these memories. We are holding a very small funeral for David today, and since we cannot have his friends to celebrate his life with us, we will be sure to read your memory this afternoon.

First met and admired David in high school at Upper Canada College where he built an authentic, steel, model military tank, about 3' long, radio controlled, fired flames from the gun. Really got to know David years later as we both played on a Granite Club curling team, competing at all the local clubs at their bonspiels. I was also a car fan so David had to show me his antique race cars and his system to bring the them into his basement. Just recently I was chatting with David and he spoke of coming back to curling. Over the years I have often talked about David's ingenious versatility. I am certainly a better person for having known David.

SO I bet David will be sorely missed by all his nieces, nephews, family & dogs. I met David at Al Empringham's chalet at Georgian Peaks in 1980's. I just walked up to him and said, "you know, if things had been a bit different, you would be my 'step god brother in law'! I walked him thru the family relationship to Olive & Hub Keenleyside as my godparents, and while I can't remember the rest, I recall him vividly: a dear friend to both Al & Davy Empringham with their shared interests in car racing, skiing and North Toronto. What a wonderful man. Here's to you David! Martha Seagram, Thornbury

I knew David through my late husband, Donald Hersey, who passed away mid-life in 1988. My best memory was that David was always the most generous of hosts. Always great food, ample libation, stories and laughs.
Don will be happy to greet you on the other side David - and he will be pleased to reminisce about the good shared times skiing and relaxing apres-ski at Georgian Peaks.

I enjoyed curling with David at Bayview. But more so I enjoyed hearing his stories about his car racing career. He was a true adventurer.

So sad to hear. I remember the first time I played with him. I was a brand new member playing with the TMS (Thursday Morning Seniors) guys. I was introduced on the first tee. He kind of said hello. Never said another word. I turned to one of the fellows I was playing with and asked who this guy was. Even then he was having trouble walking and swinging the club. I was told he was an engineer with his own successful company. A skier and a race car driver. As is the custom after our round we all sat around talking. Dave and I got into a long talk about his interests. At one point I looked around and everyone else had left. Just Dave and I. And Dave was doing all the talking. Work, sport, travel. I never missed another opportunity to say hi to Dave when I saw him at the club. I wish I could have lived half the life he lived.
Respectfully,
Jim Miller
