When I met Evelyn Botteas, I met a person that was gracious, gentle and welcoming.
As I got to know her better, my first impressions were confirmed.
I learned how Evelyn would incorporate in her day to day living, in small gestures, her interest in art, her flower arrangements, her composition of flower pressing, her aquarelle and music. Of course I realized early that music and dancing where never far when visiting Yiayia with Evelyn. She showed strength in many ways. I had the chance to call her Mother for nearly 10 years. She taught me many valuable life lessons.
Through that time, when visiting Toronto, she taught me that when somebody comes to visit, they never leave hungry, that you sit, talk and that you show them that you care. With her encouragement I learned to speak Greek, sang and danced with her. Those are parts of the fond memories that I have of her.
To Peter and Mr. Botteas, and to the Janetakes and Botteas family, you have my deepest sympathy for your loss.
