Thinking of you all so much at this time. I always enjoyed seeing Matt at family Christmas parties and various gatherings over the years - he was kind, fun, and had a really warm energy to him. This is a tragic loss, I'm sending my deepest condolences and am keeping you all in my thoughts. And... from one hockey player to another, I'm pleased to see all the tributes to him on various hockey platforms, talking about his dedication and commitment to, and passion for the game. That was clear to all.

Linda, Peter, Ali, Britain, Benson and Berkeley,
Our thoughts are with you all during this difficult
time. Matthew’s loss will be felt by you and so many others. We will treasure all our memories of Matthew and remember them often. One memory that stands out is when we came to Linda & Peter’s to pick up some Norfolk items that we had ordered. Linda & Peter weren’t home but Matthew was. Matthew was so kind and helpful. He introduced us to Tilley who ended up living with us for 15 years. Matthew was like that, wanting to see people happy and enjoying their lives. Over the years we enjoyed seeing and spending time with Matthew. We will always remember his great smile. Matthew will always be remembered and never forgotten. These memories will help get you thru such a difficult Time. Love & Hugs Terry & Jen Shevchenko

All the good memories of my cousin Matthew
Sitting in the back of the station waggon making faces at people and flipping them off
Blaine and I getting you to pretend you were a monster and chasing Amanda around (sorry Amanda)
Hanging out at our house on top of the swingset
Playing with firecrackers
Throwing darts and oops hitting Nana’s peach jar wow I’ve never seen her flip out like that before
Spending countless hours at your house swimming in the pool until our lips were blue
Going to watch Return of the Jedi.... And only because it was going to be with you and Blaine
Going to see our first drive-in movie with the family which was Ghostbusters at the cottage
Throwing as many balls ,sock and whatever making the biggest messes
Taking apart the bunkbed and making it a slide down the back of the wall
Watching Jaws and being so scared that I didn’t want to swim in the lake to be honest I think I’m still scarred by it
Infamous food fights (I truly am sorry auntie Linda)
Why did we all have the same haircut
Taking apart the couch and making forts
You guys rescuing bear (God I loved that dog) even though he chewed my shoe but I for gave him because I loved him so much
Always fighting to sit next to me
Always eager to get a picture of the four of us together
You telling me how happy you were and that you had the best girl in the whole entire world
Me telling you how great I think Ali is when I met her
You telling me you have absolutely no idea wait until you get to know her
Seeing you have 3 beautiful children
Seeing all your adventures
I am also adding these pictures because my dad loved the (guys )get together‘s that you did every so often he really looked forward to it.
I will miss you with all my heart, may your soul Rest In Peace

Ali, Britain, Benson, Berkeley and the entire Dowdle and Earle families, our thoughts are with you during this very difficult time.
Matt was an incredible leader and fierce competitor. He was someone that many of us the same age as him looked up to. He was career driven, an exceptional athlete, all around loveable guy and most importantly a devoted father and husband. Matt was the captain of our hockey team for the past 6 years and always drafted a team based on character rather than talent. Matt loved drafting heart and soul guys because they encompassed the same qualities he exuberated. “Parking lot guys” he would say.
At the start of last season Matt decided 2019 would be his last year of Bolton Hockey. Having competed in that old barn on the top of the South Hill since he was 6 years old, he talked about how much he was going to miss it. During the 2019 playoffs I was one of many men well beyond their years competing a little bit harder than normal for Matt. The whole team knew it was his last season and recognized how bad he wanted to win the Championship. That’s the type of guy Matt was. He made you want to do your best because you knew he was always giving it his best. In typical Dowdle fashion Matt led the team to the Championship going on to win the playoff MVP.
I’m going to miss seeing big #19 with his jersey tucked in his pants, vintage solid black socks and two piece aluminum hockey stick, playing the game he excelled at and loved.
RIP my friend.

Oh mD,
Everything is far
and long gone by.
I think that the star
glittering above me
has been dead for a million years.
I think there were tears
in the car I heard pass
and something terrible was said.
A clock has stopped striking in the house
across the road...
When did it start?...
I would like to step out of my heart
and go walking beneath the enormous sky.
I would like to pray.
And surely of all the stars that perished
long ago,
one still exists.
I think that I know
which one it is--
which one, at the end of its beam in the sky,
stands like a white city...

Matt was our neighbour. We live directly across the road from him, Ali and the kids. I always enjoyed our frequent intersections: taking out the garbage, going to work in the morning or just happening to be outside of our respective homes at the same time. His easy affability, his sense of humour and his thoughts on current events - especially labour-related - made him an interesting and engaging conversationalist. He was an ideal neighbour. His presence was palpable, but never intrusive; always friendly, and willing to help when he could. It was somehow reassuring to know he was there, as I simply assumed he always would be. It's difficult to imagine never again being greeted by his cheerful waive, and an exchange of salutations, as he patiently herds the kids into the van for an outing. All of us who were his neighbours will miss him deeply and remember him with great affection. He was that kind of person. Gordon and Catherine

Many of us knew Matt through our work, sharing best practices, experience and knowledge to reach the best outcomes for our organizations. Matt worked with our company New Horizon System Solutions (Capgemini) for a number of years before he joined OPG. Matt made big impression on all, both in work and socially. He made many of us feel like one of his close friends, although we realize there are many others who were closer, knowing him from school and hockey. He had that profound way of building strong and effective relationships with people, companies and unions where ever he went. Your family's description of Matt is very accurate and a great means for us to remember Matt. Our sympathy and sincere condolences go to you all as you find ways to make sense and ensure the right memories of Matt will last always. We will miss Matt and share in your grief.
