I have just found a letter and loads of information about my particular branch of the Skidmore's in Brierley Hill, Staffordshire that Linda sent me from her Burley Road home in England 30th October 1987. All handwritten in those days and I cannot imagine the time it took her and all for one person who contacted her. That's dedication. I was going to contact her again today as I didn't know she had passed.
Linda I salute you and I know your dedication is still helping others.

To Linda's family and friends I want to express my saddness and condolences..I knew Linda many years ago at the University of Windsor. I shared an apartment with Linda and Ginny. They were the athletes I was the tag-along. I remember Linda was the one more interested in Philosophy, literature, and music rather than sport. She dragged me to a blue grass concert and modern dance (didn't take) and introduced me to Dave Brubeck. We all loved Motown..
I regret that I did not remain connected to Linda in later years. I am happy that she has lived a life of joy and love.
I wish you comfort and peace in the times ahead.

ALONG THE WAY
You liked to drive fast, in your sports car
Feel the wind on your face, the call of each day
In a flash you’d be out there, every opportunity
Not a moment to spare, always somewhere to be
But you always had time for the flowers along the way
You painted bright colours, revelled in the sun’s glow
Dug the beat of a drum, you played the piano
Did you know you were the only one who danced to my cello?
CHORUS:
Your laugh! Well it reached beyond our driveway!
It travelled up into the sky, amongst the stars and the galaxies
It echoes in my heart, for now and for always
A dance and a skip, you were off on your scooter
An adventure was near, and you were gonna be there
Always something to see or do, the sooner the better
But you always took time for the flowers, along the way
CHORUS (repeat)
Your garden grew lush, everything in full bloom
You loved all you knew, and they loved you
Everyone that you touched, came back to you
Because you always took time for the flowers along the way
Song and Lyrics: Leanne Dixon

The qualities of a good teacher seemed to come naturally to Linda and she took pride in the profession. Linda also will be remembered for her hearty and engaging laughter. A very nice person will be missed.

I knew Linda for only a few months at Pickering High School just before she retired. However, I still remember warmly her helpfulness, friendliness, and kindness to me, a supply teacher and recent immigrant to Canada, without family here and with few social contacts. In particular, I remember her coming round to my house with purple flowers after the birth of our child. This would have been a thoughtful gesture in any circumstances, but it was particularly appreciated in a situation where, due to our acute social isolation, the birth of the baby had been almost ignored.

I met Linda in 2013 on a trip through England and immediately appreciated her gentle nature, stimulating curiosity and wicked sense of humour. These two pictures remind me of the zest for life that she exuded. I so appreciated our lasting friendship. She was a joy to know! Sending warmest thoughts to Alice and all the family and loved ones.

I had the pleasure of working closely with Linda at Anderson Collegiate for several years. I was the Physical Education Department Head and Linda was an integral part of the department heading the girls side of the department. Linda would be there to assist me in many aspects of teaching and heading a department. She had a wonderful smile and personality plus. I remember after a particularly trying day, Linda came the next morning with a wonderful pin that said "Don't Let The Turkeys Get you Down". That pin stayed with me for all of the time I was the department head and became a great point of reference. That pin exemplified Linda in her generosity and caring that the students picked up. A great teacher and role model for not only the Anderson girls but for all the students and staff at Anderson. Well done Linda and may you now rest in peace.

Linda and I started teaching together at Anderson Collegiate in the physical education department. She did lots of coaching but my favourite memories were of us sharing one small gym coaching boys and girls gymnastics. The kids had loads of fun working together. Linda introduced me to numerous cultural disciplines such as art and modern dance. We went to New York to see the Alvin Ailey dance troupe and the Museum of Modern Art. Above all I'll remember Linda as a kind and compassionate human being who always tried to see the positive side of life.

Linda fulfilled so many roles in my life; cousin, teacher, coach, mentor and friend - collaborator and chief encourager. I will be forever grateful for the time she invested in my life. Her love of sport, music, art, dance and travel was infectious and she went out of her way to share her passions with me. My first art gallery, symphony, ballet, jazz club, international volleyball match and driving lesson in her MG happened because she chose to share those experiences with me as her mentee-cousin. Later, when our teaching careers overlapped, we encouraged each other’s growth professionally - Linda loved to share resources and ideas! Linda’s love, selflessness and generosity were a constant welcome force throughout my life - we laughed our way through many crazy times. I treasure my memories of her goodness and fun.

My condolences to both of you, Louise and Ken. I remember Linda as a very young girl - her wry and happy sense of humour and her patience as my piano teacher. You were all a very close family and i know that the next few days will bring moments of great memories

Linda had a real enjoyment of the humour found in everyday situations. When life in teaching at PHS became stressful, a number of us got together at lunch to watch the latest video of SEINFELD when it first appeared on tv. It was the perfect comic relief we all needed and gave us many happy memories in our retirement years. Linda was a sweet, sensitive and lovely woman. She will be missed.

Linda and I have been friends for over fifty years (hard to believe it has been that long!) We shared a lot of fun in university, including being on the volleyball team together and sharing many happy hours at the DH (local pub). We went to teachers' college together and shared the scary prospect of joining the working world. At first I thought it was unfortunate that she got a teaching position in Whitby and I in Wheatley, but it turned out to be a lucky thing. I went to Toronto many times where we experienced a lot of different cultural activities and restaurants. When I got married, she was my maiden of honour. Once she met Alice, her life took a wonderful turn. She was so happy!! She and Alice and Terry and I even shared a couple of vacations--lots of fun in the sun.
Thank you for all the laughs, Linda. Your love of life was infectious.

Linda was the Light. I am so grateful to have known her. From my first memories of hanging out in her house in Whitby, listening to her favourites like Stevie Wonder, to watching her coach at Anderson Collegiate, to every time since those days when I was fortunate enough to have had some time with her. Always smiling, always positive, caring and full of life. I will cherish my memories of Linda forever and will always smile when I remember her. With Love Linda, we will meet again.

Linda was an incredible teacher, who gave freely of her time to her students. I was also the recipient of her dedicated coaching over my years as a student at ACVI. She taught us sportsmanship, hard work and how to work as a team. My thoughts are with her family. With sincere sympathy, Laura Elliott
