I had many fun September camps with Jim and his wife Barb and children. I also professionally appeared in front of Jim who was an excellent judge. He had a passion for people whatever age and a goal to help everyone he met. My condolences to the Felstiner family. He will be missed by many people.

I have had the honour of knowing the Judge for 20 years and feel privileged to have known him. Judge Felstiner trusted myself and my animal hospital to care for his dogs Hannah and Carly. What struck me the most was what a gentleman the judge was. He cared for his pets and embraced our recommendations. We had many a great conversation about his travels and pictures of many wonderful locations he and Barbara travelled before settling in to the task of dealing with the dogs.
I will miss his booming voice, his solid handshake and his loving nature. Rest In Peace Judge
With many great memories Dr. Greg Usher and all at the Usher Animal Hospital.

Sets The Sun! Jim was the consellor for six teenagers for a month in the Senior section at Camp Ahmek in the early 1950s,four Americans and two Canadians all of whom knew each other well from previous years at the Camp. Jim spent hours discussing life at the meal table three times a day,on a canoe trip and in the cabin at night: asking questions, gently probing our views with humour and with wisdom. The six scattered but remain in intermittent contact with fond memories recalled of those endless hours spent under his tutelage
Jim reentered my life while interning at Toronto Western Hospital in the early 1960s when he was involved in Social work in that rough part of Toronto. He would bring one of his charges with medical issues to see me in Emerg.as they were petrified of hospitals, doctors and anybody in authority.Everyone was in awe of his thoughtfulness and his genuine concern for these very tough, angry, woebegotten but vulnerable young people.
Carol and I were delighted and proud to be at the ceremony when he was created a Judge but he did decline my offer for silk jockey shorts to compliment his robe. Our paths crossed intermittently over the next fifty years but when we met it was always the same Jim: a delightful raconteur filled with humour, laughter and affection. A man for all seasons,a mentor to so very many and an example of a full life that we could all emulate. Farewell. Carol and David Dickson

Oh, the joy and laughter that Jim brought to Canoe Lake, Camp Ahmek and the Taylor Statten Camps!! Besides the fun Jim was a leader extraordinaire. So many young men became better people because of Jim's influence. May Wakonda shine upon your spirit, Jim. Warm thoughts to the family - Sue Ebbs

As a lawyer and a judge of the Ontario Court of Justice, I had a great deal of respect and admiration for Judge Felstiner. He was always innovative in response to difficult situations. I remember one case where he used his judicial allowance to help pay the transportation costs of a grandmother coming from Newfoundland to pursue custody of her grandson and take him home. Without the financial help, the Children's Aid Society was not prepared to cover the costs. My condolences to his family.

Dear Barbara,
Tamar and I were saddened to learn about Jim’s death.
He was a wonderful person with a big, a joyous personality.
He was a great help to so many including me . He acted as a mentor when he was the Registrar of the court at 311 Jarvis St. He was a great teacher and fun to be around.
My daughter, Rachel, just remarked that he sounded like a terrific person.
I know that you will treasure many loving and sweet moments of your live’s together.
With sympathy,
Cliff Nelson.

Our paths first crossed in the summer of 1960. Jim was doing social work at one of Ontario's exclusive boys school and I was a youth. When Jim came to the school he was a breathe of fresh air not at all what we were accustomed to. The school had about 200 youth so it was a tall order to tackle but Jim soon won over a goodly number of the youth. His story telling was amazing. I cannot remember the content but remember being mesmerized at the time. Our paths crossed several times during the 60s. Jim guiding and supporting me through turbulent teenage years.
We lost contact for about 20 years then I get a phone call one day and that distinguished voice was Jim. He was helping out another youth and family when he came across my name and thought I could help him. I was able to put him in contact with another person. We had lunch a couple of weeks later that contact was able to help him out. At lunch we talked of some the other youth from the boys school and what became of them. Some went on to better things, some didn't, some were lost. A couple of weeks later Jim presided at my wedding. He did warn me that people he married stayed married and he was right.
Another 20 years passed and we crossed paths again at an event for youth. Jim was there always looking after the best interest of youth. We had lunch and discussed current events and however things change they stay the same.
Jim was a big influence in my life and getting through turbulent times. I am sure there are many many more youth that Jim guided and helped.
I never thanked Jim for all his guidance and patience. Thank you Jim.
Rest in peace

I was so fortunate to be one of the middle school students who was mentored by the Judge (in 2006-2007). Although I was a kid, much younger and shier than he was, we quickly bonded. For one thing, I loved going to camp in Algonquin Park, and Judge would thrill me with pictures and stories of his own adventures there. We stayed in touch on and off in the years that followed. I have a photograph he took still in my childhood bedroom, which serves as a reminder of the generous and thoughtful mentor he was. I remember him fondly, and send my heartfelt condolences to his family and friends in the wake of his passing.
