To the Araujo Family, I am shocked to read of the notice that you have such a loss, in realizing Frederick has passed away at such a delicate young age. Such sadness, he was so delightful remembering him playing when you lived on Deloraine. I cannot begin to express my heartfelt reaction about a loss of this magnitude, it is all very devastating. Prayers to send you that his memory is a blessing, and he will live forever in your hearts, and that in time, good memories will replace the oceans of tears... R,I.P Freddy xox Much too Soon xox

Fred was always such an amazing friend to me and I was very lucky to be in his life. I have so many wonderful memories from weekends when Fred would host our entire group. He was always so welcoming and he always brought everyone together. My most sincere condolences to Fred’s family, he was such a special person and he will be deeply missed.

It has been a long time since I have seen Frederick, but I still remember him as the fun-loving, athletic, comical kid I grew up around. Being nearly a decade younger, I remember running around his backyard desperately trying to keep up with him. He was always so fast and so tall in my eyes, but I tried my best to learn from him – how to shoot hoops, jump on a pogo stick without falling, use a hockey stick, or beat him at a board game. My family and I still laugh about the time I chased after Fred and he somehow slammed a doorknob into my face by accident, proving I was maybe a bit too small to hang out with the big kids, but also making for some hilarious double-black-eye photos. Fred acted like a playful older brother to my sister and I, especially on our joint family trip to Norway. Twice he scared me out of my boots, popping up through a window of a boat to surprise a few of us and swinging me jokingly over the water off a dock. I definitely have grown into someone who pulls the same kind of harmlessly hilarious jokes; perhaps he had a role in that. Besides being endlessly fun, Fred also knew how to show kindness in the little ways. As a simple example, I once did my very best to pull an ‘elaborate’ prank to convince him I had gotten a pet cat; I had put a ‘sleeping’ toy cat that took very unconvincing motor-operated breaths in a corner and warned him not to get too close or ‘she’d wake up!’ He played along for hours just to let me think I had successfully pranked him for once. In hindsight, all of these moments have stayed with me because they impacted who I am today. I wish I could say I knew Fred as he grew into an adult, I know I would have told him that he was someone I looked up to as a young kid, someone I was always in awe of. I will always remember him in such a fond way, and hope that I too possess even some of the qualities Fred had that inspired me.

There will be a lot of tears shed for Frederick, this we understand. Why he’s gone so soon, is not something we can really understand. Almost as futile, would be to try and put words to what this loss means, so I will simply carry the many memories I have of him as a vibrant boy and young man, and know that many others will too, and in this way he’ll live on in our hearts.
