My memories of Elfie go back some 40 years (I know, it seems so hard to believe!), and I have not seen Elfie for many years, making it all the more poignant that I have warm thoughts of her all these years later. I was privileged to get to know the Barrett clan, their significant others and to spend several wonderful weekends at Pointe au Baril on Georgian Bay many years ago. During this time I got to know Elfie, a generous and funny soul. Being not much younger than Elfie, her passing reminds me that our time on the planet does not come with any guaranteed expiry date. I know that she was a great Mom and will be deeply missed. Let her spirit be an inspiration to all those who knew her!
My condolences to her family and especially to her daughters.

Elfie,
You touched the lives of countless people through your vocation, your genuine concern for others, your large network of family and friends and your school families. So many named you as their favorite teacher. So many laughed until they cried at your sayings and stories. So many learned academics and life lessons. So many felt heard when you listened. So many felt empowered when you encouraged them. So many felt confidant when you showed the way. So many became kinder because of your friendship. And all of us are better for having had 'The Elf' in their lives. We love you. You will be forever missed by the staff and your former students of St. Raphael Catholic Elementary School.

To the Henley family:
I was saddened today to read of Elfie’s passing. We attended MUN together & taught together at St. Pius X Girl’s School many years ago. Although I haven’t had contact in nearly 40 years, I well remember Elfie’s fun-loving nature & joy in life. She was a wonderful teacher & a wonderful person.I am so sorry for your loss.

We are saddened to hear of the passing of Mrs. Henley. We had the honour and pleasure of meeting her at St. Raphael Catholic School. She was my sons kindergarten teacher. She was such a loving, caring, thoughtful teacher and person. 20 years later and we still talk about her. She is one of those teachers who made an impact on all our lives not only her students.
May all the beautiful memories help you through difficult time. Gone but not forgotten. 'Til we meet again Mrs. H ❤

What a great story teller... Her eyes lit up and the laughter bubbled up with each word she spoke!
What a great sense of humour... Elfie was just as ready to laugh at herself as anyone, anything else.
What a great big heart... She always thought of others, especially her wee ones at school, before herself.
To her family, especially Trish and Julia, may you find comfort in all the memories of time spent together,
of hugs, of laughs and in all the brilliant(ly funny) wisdom she was always ready to share.
God blessed us with Elfie's presence in our lives, just as He blessed her with all of us in hers.
Rest in peace, Elfie. When we meet again, we'll have yet another good laugh!
