Deepest condolences to the O'Rourke Family.
I first met Steve as first year resident starting my residency at St. Michael's hospital in 1989. St. Mikes could be an intimidating place and people like Steve helped allay our anxieties. With his ever smiling face and calm demeanour, he always took the time to meet the new trainees, try to get to know them as a person and then took them under his wings and taught us about spinal anesthesia. To this day, I I have been using many of these "clinical pearls" in my day to day work at North York General for the past 25 years.

Dear O'Rourke Family,
I was saddened to learn of your dad's passing in the newspaper this morning.
Along with Paddy Beirne and Joe Marotta he was instrumental in helping me embark on my medical career, I saw your dad a couple of years ago at Mrs. Masterson's funeral, as usual he looked fit and was always was very interested to hear about my practice and being a physician.
A great role model , I did have the pleasure of working with him during my medical school years, a great physician and teacher, always so calm , I guess from years of raising all of you!!!.

Pat and all the O'Rourkes...Franny and I send our sympathy and prayers on the passing of your wonderful Dad. Of course, the Clunes and the O'Rourkes were close for decades and I know Franny and her family treasured that connection between the families. And I always enjoyed meeting with with Steve at St Bonnie's or at the Don Mills Mall, where we would catch up on each other's news and have a lovely chat. He was a marvellous human being. I know he and Don C will soon be up there having a drink!
