I'm just learning of this, now, in December 2019. I am so sad to hear about Akiko's passing. She was so generous - you've spoken about this in your obituary. The last contact she had was when she contributed to a Kickstarter project I was running - and even when we hadn't seen each other in a few years - she always supported my art. Akiko - you were such a kind soul and though I didn't know you long, I knew you were such a beautiful human being through and through. This is so tragic.

I had the pleasure of working with Akiko at Scholastic for a few years where we had frequent email exchanges per week. She was bright and beautiful on the inside and out. My sincere condolences to her family and those close to her she leaves behind. I spoke to her a few months back...it doesnt seem real. Taken too early and im so sorry for your loss.

Akiko and I worked together at Scholastic. Her kind heart and thoughtfulness meant that she was someone who noticed the small things. Her beautiful smile added a sparkle to every room. And her love of Buffy (and all dogs!) is just one of the things I will always remember. Thinking of you fondly Akiko, and sending my deepest condolences to both friends and family as we say goodbye today. Gone but not forgotten.

I am devastated to hear the news of our sweet Akiko’s passing. Akiko has been a dear friend for 11 years. She touched the lives of so many, and I will always be grateful for her friendship.
