Dear Joanne and Family,
We were so sad to hear about the loss of Frank. He will forever be in our memory as a wonderful friend and teacher who loved life and learning, who had a grear sense of humor and was interesed in anyone he met. We remember his days in Cleveland, our meeting in Montreal, and the times we met in Toronto. He will be missed. You are all in our thoughts.

Frank was an usher in our wedding party many years ago when I married Ed Fortune. The Turners and Fortunes had a connection through their Windsor neighbourhood and church life. I was deeply honoured to be on of the volunteers who for the past year spent a couple hours every week with Frank. Together we enjoyed a wide range of interests: reading Sherlock Holmes, enjoying passages from the Book of Psalms, watching documentaries on the Royal Family, listening to the music of Frank Sinatra, Nana Mouskouri, and Gregoria Chants, etc.
I was always impressed with his kindness and thoughtfulness. He was a man with a spacious soul. I fell blessed to have had the opportunity to know him. And though he has “shuffled off his mortal coil” I know that he will continue to live in the hearts of all he knew him.
I want to also say what an honour and pleasure it was also get to know his wife, Joanne. She impressed me with her incredible love and support for Frank.
My thoughts and prayers are with Frank, Joanne and their family.

Dear family and friends. It will be said over and over, by so many: what a wonderful contribution Frank made to social work for so many years. I first met him as a student at St. Patrick's in Ottawa in the early 1960s; later I followed his footsteps to Lakeshore Psychiatric Hospital in Toronto, and in due course, was honoured to contribute several chapters on Feminist Social Work in his Social Work Treatment books. I am deeply grateful to him for providing leadership, mentorship, friendship and opportunities to develop as a social worker. He was certainly a hero to so many and I hope the Globe recognizes this with a major obituary devoted to him.
My deepest sympathy to all. A major leading light is no more and it is important that we honour our stars.

It is with much sadness that Art and I have learned of Frank's passing. He has been a mentor to both of us and we will forever be thankful for that. Frank attended our wedding and, with Joanne, hosted us on memorable occasions. Nancy is particularly proud of the committee work and publication invitations that Frank provided. We will miss Frank dearly.

It is with great sadness I heard of Frank's death. Frank supervised my PhD thesis, which was completed in 1995. I travelled from Australia to do the degree, largely because the offer had come from Dr Francis J Turner as Dean of the School of Social Work at Wilfrid Laurier University. I had used Frank's book for a number of years for teaching purposes and could not believe that I would have the opportunity to study under him. He was a fabulous supervisor. And like others, I well remember his lessons about the need to care for "Mrs Murphy".

Dr. Turner was my professor in the doctoral program at Case Western Reserve University. He used to ask "Is Mrs. Murphy any better off if.....(a particular social work intervention is used)". Mrs. Murphy is better off because of his work. My sincere condolences to his family and colleagues.
