Obituary of Tara Elizabeth Hughes

TARA ELIZABETH HUGHES

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Tara Elizabeth Hughes, on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at the age of 45, after a long hard-fought battle with cancer. She passed peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family. Tara was born in Montreal, Quebec on July 26, 1973. Survived by her mother, Holly Hughes and step-father, James Allen; life partner, Craig Keller; dearly loved son, Joshua Keller; grandmother, Yvonne Hughes; and her sweet dog, Lulu.

A graduate of Carleton University, with degrees in Psychology and Anthropology. She worked for many years for the Canadian Security Intelligence Service at a job that she loved and with people she respected and created many lasting bonds with.

Tara was a daughter, a life partner, an aunt, and a friend to many. But most of all she was a Mom. She was a deeply devoted, loving mother. Her family was everything to Tara. And the results of this passion are ever so present to anyone who meets her son, Joshua.

Anyone that met Tara will remember her for her kindness to all she knew and her fun-loving personality. Tara laughed freely and often. She had a laugh like no others. But they will also remember her incredible strength of spirit.

Tara was first diagnosed with cancer in 2012, and she fought hard from day one. It was very difficult at times, but she faced it with incredible bravery. She would tell the Doctors, “I just want to stay as long as I can with my family.” And she did; it was her great strength and positive attitude that gave her family and friends much more time with her than was expected. We will be forever blessed with those extra memories.

The private family service will be held soon. And we invite all who knew and loved Tara to a Grand Celebration of Her Life which will be held at the Streetcar Crowsnest, 345 Carlaw Avenue, Toronto, on Sunday, April 14th from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. Please come and celebrate Tara’s beautiful life and share memories with her family, friends, and colleagues.

We would also like to thank Dr. Marcus Butler and his incredible caring and compassionate team at Princess Margaret Hospital. It was through his care that we were allowed as much time as we did with Tara. Our entire family will be eternally grateful to all of them. All donations to the fund below will go directly toward supporting his great work.
