I first met Roger at The Peterborough Waterski Club on Little Lake. A few years later he became our family Doctor and we remained with him until he retired. Roger was more than our Doctor he became a friend who was always happy to see you and he was always interested in you as person. He always took a few minutes for a little chat, he was truly the epitome of a “ Family Doctor “ Condolences to his entire family he will be missed.

Dear Barb, Dione, Candice and Eneli,
Please accept my heartfelt condolences for the unexpected loss of Roger on February 15. I am a regular subscriber to the Globe & Mail, and when I scanned the obituaries I immediately recognized both photographs of Roger.
Roger was born a few years before me. Although a first cousin, he seemed more like a warm and friendly big brother - like my only brother, Michael, who was born in 1942, one year before Roger.
I remember well my dad (Gordon Driver) taking us on visits to see my Aunt Bonnie and Roger, Carolyn and Frank. I especially remember my dad relating how wonderful it was that his sister Bonnie had married his best friend, Dick Holmes. And of course it was very meaningful that Roger kept his father's last name.
I have shared the news of Roger's passing with my brother and will also share the news with my sisters.

I am so sad to hear of Dr. Holmes passing. He was more than a doctor, you felt like you were going to see a friend. When I decided to go back to school to become a teacher, he would tell me how proud he was of me, and he always offered me encouragement and support. Often our visits we chatted about politics, social justice issues, and so many other non medical related topics! I will miss his laugh, his kindness and his empathy for others. My condolences to his family and office staff.

So sad to hear of Roger's passing. Going to see him in the office was like going to see an old friend. Loved to hear his laugh while he was standing down the hallway doing his notes after he was finished with a patient. Roger helped nurse me back to health after having 2 valve replacements. It seems ironic to me that he passed away in the same place that I was 2 years ago. It is a tribute to him that the staff that he hired always greeted you the same way he did. We have been a patient with Rog for over 30 years. A sad day when he had to retire.
Thanks to Kerri Lynn, Ashley, Sam ( and Lil previously ) for looking after us the way that Roger wanted.
Our condolences to Barb and all of Roger's family.

Sharon and I would like to express our sincerest condolences to Barb and family. We were deeply saddened by the news of Roger’s untimely death.
During the 26 years we lived in Peterborough, I always had the greatest respect for Roger as a family physician, a leader, a father and a husband. His efforts in mental health during the period when Peterborough had essentially no psychiatric service, were greatly appreciated. He was always a dynamic voice in the Departmemt of Family Medicine. Roger had enthusiasm, common sense and a great sense of humour. I will never forget his infectious laugh.
Roger faced the challenges of heart disease from an early age. He did everything possible to look after himself: healthy lifestyle, Atkins diet, exercise, weight control and a good balance between his vocation and his family.
Roger will be sadly missed. But all who knew him are better of for the opportunity. He was a wonderful person. We are grateful.
Sincerely
Murray Trusler, MD

We want to express our deepest condolences to all of Roger's family. We were saddened to hear of his passing. The world will not be the same without him in it.
He was a remarkable, empathetic and respected physician, who I had the pleasure of working with at the Peterborough hospital, when back in the day the family doctor took care of their own patients. He was loved by them all, deeply respected by the nursing staff, and it was clearly evident he loved what he did.. it was an honour knowing him outside of the hospital through my sister's friendship with Candace. He always stopped to chat when he saw me at work. Always remembered our children's names and inquired about them every time. He was a class act and a lovely man, with a beautiful family, who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Linda & I go back a long way. We knew both Roger & Barb in our student days at Queens back in the 60’s. Our paths kept crossing, and we all ended up in Peterborough. Rog became our “Medicalman”, and I became their “Legalman”, a wonderful reciprocal relationship which flourished for more than 40 years. But they also became our very dear friends.
Roger was a fantastic doctor, imbued with wisdom, and great common sense. He was always there for us, on a moment’s notice. One incident stands out, and illustrates the incredibly caring nature of them both. Our daughter, just 10, was rushed to Sick a Kids for emergency surgery for a suspected tumour. Who joined us in the waiting area to share the results of the surgery.....Barb & Rog! Words can’t describe how much that meant to us, as we celebrated good news.
Our thoughts are with you Barb, and your 3 beautiful daughters, and extended families.
With love...Doug & Linda

Dear Candice, Barb, Dione, and Eneli,
I am sending you my deepest sympathies during this difficult time. When I think back to spending so many years growing up in your home, Roger was a significant person in my childhood. He was always kind and generous to me. Some of my favourite memories are when he took a group of us cross-country skiing at Haultain. He was so patience given that we fell so many times. He just laughed and encouraged us to keep going. It is also because of him that I enjoy putting cinnamon on my pancakes - he introduced this yummy trick to me during a sleepover at your house when I was quite young. To this day, pancakes just aren't the same to me without cinnamon. I also recall that in my tween years I had a painful ear infection. Roger learned about my ear infection and walked over to our house with his medical gear to diagnose and help me out. I remember feeling quite touched that he took the time to do this. I could always count on him to laugh at my jokes. And of course, his laugh truly was one of his most wonderful qualities. He was a very special person and I feel lucky that I knew him.
Please know that I am thinking of you all and sending you my love and support,
Nicole Davies

Dear Barbara
I am beyond shocked after reading about Roger in the Globe and mail .
After leaving Roper Dr. in Peterborough I had often remembered Roger
from our teenage hockey days.
Plus he was a great family doctor and friend.
We retired to Victoria but never a week goes by
without thinking about our life in Peterborough
Roger was an important part of that
