In 1985, when I was Chair of Harbourfront Corporation I first met Trevor Eyton - he and other senior corporate executives served as advisors and supporters. Trevor, unpretentious and courteous offered his advice and counsel.
As the CEO of Cabot Trust Company, a new player in the industry during a very turbulent time for the industry, I gladly and gratefully accepted. Six years later we sold the company for a very substantial profit. Trev, once again thank you!
Soon after, Trevor and I became members of the Senate of Canada and for nearly two decades I witnessed firsthand this quiet, modest man use his highly respected skills and talent, mostly behind the scene, to help build a Canada which the world would envy and copy.
One example: NAFTA.
I played a small role in the promotion of NAFTA, but Trevor was irreplaceable in his role to help craft the strategies needed in the deliberations and negotiations of an agreement of enormous importance to Canadians. Sharing his many contacts and using his extensive business acumen to achieve success a role he had also played during the original FTA agreement negotiations between Canada and the USA.
A man with a big heart, his advice and assistance were regularly sought by members on both sides of the isle, which he gladly shared. He was easily and deservedly one of the most respected members of the Red Chamber.
In a recent email exchange with Maureen Kempston Darkes this is how she described him: “A truly decent human being, excited by the opportunities that life presented and one of the most devoted people to make a positive difference in the lives of people who were struggling to create new opportunities”.
Trevor’s generosity was exemplary both financially and most important how he offered and dedicated his time, which has greatly improved the lives of many in our communities.
His humility cannot hide his valuable legacy which generations of Canadians have and will continue to benefit from.
Our friendship of more than 3 decades has enriched my life and indeed was of great comfort during my wife’s illness and her subsequent death.
To Trevor I say: “You have been a loyal friend, an inspiration and a great role model. Merci mon ami! Until we meet again.”
Sincerely,
Con Di Nino

I had planned to attend the service at Rosedale United yesterday but was prevented by a last minute health issue.
My condolences to the family of Trevor Eyton. I had the opportunity to serve with him in the Senate of Canada and even though we were on opposite ends of the Chamber, I have the greatest respect for his contribution to the people of Canada. We know each other many years before when I was Mayor of Toronto and he was a distinguished businessman in our City. He was a great contributor to the betterment of life in Toronto.
He is appreciated and will be missed.

My sincere condolences to the family of Trevor Eyton. I worked at Brascan when he was CEO and remember his generosity and kind nature. He once gave a bunch of us the use of his box at the Sky Dome to attend a Rod Stewart concert. The staff summer parties at his country home were fun and everyone was welcomed by Trevor and Jane - no matter what rung of the ladder you were on in the corporate world. I will always be grateful for his leadership and friendship during my 20 something years at Brascan. Rosemary Rosada (nee White)

To Trevor and family,
I remember so well first meeting Trevor and Jane.
Laughter, generosity, kindness, encouragement support. Trevor made all feel included appreciated and important. Over the many years I never heard a sour note issued, on the contrary a wonderful sense of joy and family permeated his every word.
He will be missed by many...
The irreplacable Trevor Eyton, a man we all called a friend. Peace to the family.

To Chris and the entire Eyton Family,
What you wrote about Trevor captures beautifully the man I knew and respected.
For me, he was a business colleague I could always count on, and became a friend who gave me invaluable advice and support.
They don’t make many people like Trevor - he was a great guy, what the Jews call a mensch, who will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
My heartfelt condolences to all.

Debbie and Susie;
Please accept my deepest condolences in the loss of a great father and pillar of business and charity.
If every person took a chapter from “Trevor’s Book” this world would be vastly improved.
Take comfort in the memories and the plentiful admiration of your Father.
Respectfully and warmly,
