Obituary of Helen Catherine Scott

HELEN CATHERINE SCOTT (nee Goodenough)

On the day of February 5th, 2019, Helen Catherine Scott passed away peacefully in her 87th year, with her daughters at her side.  Predeceased by her husband of 56 years, William ‘Bill’; two siblings (John and Arthur); and her beloved nephew (Terry); leaving one surviving sister (Margaret).  She was a fun, deeply caring and devoted mother of Tracy and Deborah, and an adored grandma to Olivia, Sarah, Robyn and Benjamin. She leaves behind many cherished nieces, and a nephew.

An Occupational Health Nurse for most of her 45+ year career, Helen started her nursing studies in Oshawa at just 17 years old. It was through nursing that she established friendships with women that were first co-workers, then bridesmaids, becoming life-long friends, as well as friendships formed while working for Sterling Drug Ltd. for over 25 years.

Her passion for travelling took her around the globe. When she wasn’t busy counting countries she visited, she was to be found in her garden in King City, or playing cards around a noisy and boisterous table with family and friends.  Helen’s great passion for learning and the power of education was passed onto her daughters, and while they pursued their education, Helen was busy with her own studies, proudly graduating from York University with a Bachelor’s Degree in 1992.

The family will receive friends at the Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles – Newbigging Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 7th. A celebration of her life will be held the following day, Friday, February 8th in the chapel at 1:30 p.m, with a reception to follow. If desired, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, or The Foundation Fighting Blindness at ffb.ca.   Condolences may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
